My So Called Cult.
I will state again that Jess is a MUCH better dramatic actress than I (and others) have given her credit for... She does indeed appear to have the teenage girl melodrama DOWN of the likes that Claire Danes was so good at.
Props young lady!

Hmm. Wondering how this will turn out and why they made the Daniel character act like such a jerk... Good acting on Jessica's part, yay for her. Last vlog for a while?? Hope thats not actually true, because I have true withdrawal if there is no new vlog posted at least every other day. lol

Hmm. Last vlog for a while?? ? Maybe they need to concentrate on getting the site up and INTERACTIVE (beyond the Phorum). This period of non-posting would build dramatic tension and allow the Creators (big C after this vid!) time to concentrate on the new site. Just a thought...

I can't believe how awful Revver is. My browser crashed three times as I tried to watch it.
Anybody think that this is going to be the ultimate conflict here: Daniel vs. Thelema?
She's pretty, even when she cries.

One of the reaons that I started "watching this show" was that it reminded me at first of a young girl I had worked with. She was the daughter of ultro-conservative christians (very small c for this crowd...).
This real girl was homeschooled, pretty, and shut off from the world. A real life Bree, full of life but not aware of the life outside of her church and home. The level of indoctrination and naivete was astounding and the relationship with her parents was almost dead on with that of Bree.
I can EASILY see how a young lady in ANY dogmatic religion would make the decisions she has. Boys are just boys after all... Again, pretty good acting by Jess!

I think Bree summed it up best though when she said, she's been religious her whole life, she's only known Daniel for two years. To give up Daniel could break her heart, but to give up her faith could shatter her very world, the very foundation of everything that she is. It was cruel of Daniel to place such an ultimatum on her, and I think this reveals a lot about his character.

The big conflict isn't shaping up to be evil cultists at all, but religious intolerance.

I The big conflict isn't shaping up to be evil cultists at all, but religious intolerance. Wow, if the Creators were to take on THAT as the central theme I would really hand it to them... Pretty ballsy given the political (Culture War/War with the Islamic Fundamentalists) state that our country is in. If it is the theme, then we all did not see this coming... I am just a little skeptical that they would take on something this "weighty" given the target YT demo. I don't have to remind us all that we are NOT that demo, given the level of discussion here.

Does anyone consider Daniel's reply pretty typical for a self-centered teenager who might not understand the importance of religion in someone's life in our rather secular society?
Daniel is obviously young and inexperienced not to understand how important her religion is to her. The "flipping out" part is what seems interesting to me. He's quiet, moody, interested in a cute girl, and now he goes and messes it up.
I wonder what "everything" was that Bree confessed. I wonder if it included her vlog. It seems like they might not support such open access to her life.
Her behavior is pretty typical, however, for a teen who is in the difficult position of breaking away into adulthood, yet wanting to remain in the comfort of childhood.

The big conflict isn't shaping up to be evil cultists at all, but religious intolerance. I'm not so sure about that. If the purpose of these videos was primarily to create a message of religious tolerance, would they really portray the religion as overbearing and weird? And would the message "be tolerant of fictionalized Thelema" resonate with anyone? Or would anyone draw a parallel between this and real world intolerance toward Muslims or Jews or whoever? On the contrary, it seems more likely that the reason an obscure, even fake, religion was picked is so that the audience wouldn't mind if she blew off the religion for Daniel. Her name is Lonelygirl15 because her parents have shackled her. Does anyone really want to see the parents win? And Bree end up with no friends? On the other hand, is a "Full House" ending where everyone hugs and becomes better people going to satisfy anyone? I'd be the first to vomit. One other thought -- this is going to eventually have an "ending." How do you end something like this? I wonder if the creators even know yet. What an awful thought.

It's such an odd turn for the creators to take. I, personally, have understood Daniel's point of view of things up to this video. All of a sudden he's a jerk that makes weird demands and thinks that his dinner, that could be any night, is more important than a yearly traditional ceremony. That's like a Jewish boy yelling at me for opening presents on christmas morning instead of going out to breakfast with him. I don't know, it was a good video. Good acting on Bree's part. But I'm dissapointed that Daniel is going in the direction of asshole. I always sort of looked at him as the mature older friend that kept bree in check in terms of reality, but respected her and what makes her different, hence being her only friend at high school. I hope Daniel does something to make it okay. But I sort of know he won't. It'd be just like him going to Bree's play to end the fight. They can't do yet another Daniel-does-a-nice-big-gesture-to-fix-things stunt.
