Miles responds in the "What LG15 is doing wrong" thread click here to read at the phorumEdit: Summary: The problems are due to lack of staff and money. After their exposure, they had a choice to ditch LG for a studio deal, or keep doing LG on their own. They chose LG. They are working really hard and running out of money and he is saddened that it's not meeting our expectations. He reaffirms the goal of making an interactive internet show, and promises the show will get better. My reaction: This reminds me in a way of our Iraq policy. They misled us into it. The first part of the mission was a big success, but they didn't plan for the aftermath. Now they are short on people and money. Miles feels he's invested too much now to quit LG, but by continuing the show with no exit strategy, they are only making it worse. Edit to add: Okay, perhaps comparing an internet show which has brought us entertainment and not injured anyone, to a war which has killed countless thousands of people isn't fair to Miles. I'm just saying planning and flexibility are important.

I thought you comparison to the Iraq war kind of funny, since I have found the “The Support The Creators” sentiment on the phorum very similar to the “Support Our Troops” sentiment many Americans bring up when anyone criticizes your war.
It is good that Miles finally replied to this thread, and did so with more than just “it will get better” – well not much more, but a little.
I am the only one getting a little tired of the constant complaining about them not having any money. I personally know of a number of people that are all struggling artists who not only don’t have any money, but also don’t have an audience or media attention. I think they are surprised they got a hit show, but are even more surprised that having one hasn’t translated into them all becoming rich. I’m not really a capitalist so I tend to easily get confused about things to do with money, perhaps this is just one of them.
1) I still don’t consider reading about the fans reactions to the show and then adapting it based on those reactions, is really making an interactive show. It is just having like having constant focus groups and tuning your product to market demands. What would I consider true interaction, I have no idea. When I think interaction I think games. I’m not even sure if you can merge a passive medium like video with an active one that would involve interaction. I do think they are short signed in the belief that the only thing that makes (or made) LG unique is ‘fan interaction’. Simply being one of the first to play with the genre of mock-vlog was interesting enough for me.
2) Pacing – this is an issue that Hye raised months and months ago with regards to the whole what did Dad and Dan talk about thing. My own thoughts are the pacing has to match the current action in the story. Right now the story is meant to be fast paced, they are on the run, it is suppose to be suspenseful, but instead it is seeming to drag. Overall, I don’t have any major complains about the pacing of the show.
3) This sounds a lot like they don’t know why they were dropping these clues in the first place. That they just dropped things that could be clues and plan on making what they are clues to later. I understand some people write mysteries like this, but I think it makes more sense to have the answer and then drop the clues.
4) The changes to the site have not been dramatic.

Pretty good analogy Terry. I resisted all temptation to lay into the phorumites, especially the mods, for just this kind of blind allegiance to M&M. I thought this would serve no useful purpose, other than to inflame already open wounds. Noa, thanks for the positive post. Milo, ditto. I have resigned to go back to lurking at the phorum and be patient with Miles and see if his statements bear fruition. I think we may see some improvement, but it will take them a while to get back on track. We'll see... BTW, Trash180 loved the "Franker Cove" reference!

How much does better writing cost? This is exactly the point I was going to make. While I completely disagree with Terry that it's reasonable for them to do this project without an eye on money -- the bigger issue is the point Brian raises. There's no connection between the lack of money and the absolutely ludicrous plot. A show like lonelygirl15 shouldn't cost tens of thousands a month -- the whole reason lonelygirl15 was interesting was the idea that it could be produced by teenagers.

The money issue seems a tad heavy handed to me as well. But I'm not looking at their books so anything is possible.
Also, can't you defer your student loan payments for 3 years if you have little or no income?

Y'know I really like being here. The posts are always thoughtful and articulate, and usually right on. I started posting here because I was a little irked with the direction LG was going. I thought maybe- just maybe - it might make some difference. I think Miles' post is more than just PRBS. It sounded to me to be genuine. This being the Holiday Season I thinkk we could "serve up a nice juicy slack-burger" and remember that these guys are not trained and like they said there is no handbook. They've kept honest so far and haven't really done anything cheesy like putting a Coke bottle in the foreground or a billboard on the roadside. The characters don't smoke Newports and they don't drive a Prius. You know the temptation is there. Clearly, they've given a LOT of themselves to this project. The most I give is a listen and a little complaint now and then. I get a kick out of most of the episodes and it don't cost me nothin'. They've made a promise and I think they will do everything they can to keep it. C'mon I mean really it's a miracle they've done this much. They don't owe me "jack". Not an explanation, not a promise not even another episode'. They are artists in their way - they obviously aren't trying to serve up garbage, their guessing half the time and gambling the other half. And to answer the earlier question about how much good writing costs...It costs an fortune! I'm not going to stop posting barbs here an there. I can't help it. It's my nature and it's more fun then saying "nice job". I am going to try to remember it's only a show, it'll come and then go..maybe it'll fizzle out or maybe there will be a final episode. I'm going to have a little f un with those dopey hidden clues and anagrams (GOD I HATE ANAGRAMS), shoot an email off to Yousef every once in awhile and wonder what it would take to get a date with Jackie - as Borat would say "Wowwy woo wow" (C'mon I'm kidding - or am I?) There it is - for what it's worth..I enjoy LG most of t he time and I really like being a part of this community. Hey I'm over 50 and I got a bad back...I aint got a lot going on if ya' know what I mean. So cheers everyone have a great evening Mark Oh and BTW...I think "Hooked" is just abot the ONLY one tha caught the meaning behind the seemingly meaningless Gemma thing. I bet in the olden days everyone would be weighing ion on that instead of slammin' the creators

I was compelled to post for the first time at the phorum. I'm not sure my piling on makes much difference at this point. Cross posted here, it's the best suggestion I could come up with (or is it the best with which I could up come? Prepositions are tricky):
Miles,
While this is a new medium, and it's good to experiment, I think people's attention spans have limits regardless of the format. You've been telling basically one story without much resolution for 2 hours and 55 minutes. If this were a movie, some of the audience would have left the theatre and others would be shifting uncomfortably in their seats, and that's what has happened in a manner of speaking. In a TV series, each half-hour or hour episode has a self contained story, and any story arc that lasts the life of the show is secondary. You have two choices to keep audience interest. 1) wrap up this "movie" and move on to another one either with these characters or completely different ones or 2) Make the "Order" stuff the long term story arc of the series, and introduce short, dramatic stories that are resolved within a few episodes, shifting the focus away from the longer story. Either way you gotta give us resolution, and it can't be at the end of a 7 hour movie.
Sincerely, smashing
