I can't wait to hear your work. I have no experience with audio before so I was just fooling around (mainly using noise reduction). The yahoo account is one that Bree uses as it is used on her MySpace page (I believe it was found hidden in the HTML).

Isn't it possible that our minds are just creating random words to go with unintelligible sound? Check out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a8omInsH80He offers subtitles for the song, and if you didn't know that it was being sung in Korean, you might actually belive that the song was filled with the random lyrics he posted.

To continue the Beatles analogy someone else drew, it's kind of like how "cranberry sauce" = "I buried Paul" if you're specifically listening for a clue that Paul is dead. You can make it say almost anything with that kind of sound quality.

I haven't done any processing of the file - there doesn't seem to be any need. Its perfectly clear to me that the two main phrases are "I'm scared" and "Stay (perhaps Stand) perfectly still".
EDIT: (Replying to the above two comments - No, the first two phrases are as clear as any recording needs to be)
The third comment I can't make anything of.
Its possible that two different people speak the first two phrases, but equally possible that its the same person varying the amount of stress in her voice. Closer analysis might resolve this.
I thought it would be an MP3 or a wav file and hoped that a clue might found in the header of the file, but I'm not too sure what might be gleaned from an avi - possibly the aspect ratio of the original clip and other technical details (if there was an original clip. It seems to me that the avi format may just be a ruse to reinforce the impression that there is such a thing. Had Cassie been able to supply images of Bree (?) cowering in what sounds like the local launderette, I might give this a better chance of yielding something)

lol, I missed that.
I know the video was kind of unrelated...but my point is, that the human ear can hear sounds and translates them into what we want to hear.
In Chinese restaurants I will sometimes order in Cantonese, and converse with staff, just to keep up on my language skills. My brother was with me one time, and was sure we were talking about him, because the word "jouh" (to do, to be) sounds like “Joel”.
Random gibberish might be translated into what you want to hear, because you are forcing your mind to make sense of these sounds, so they come up with the first words that sound similar.

What if the internet took over the story? Is that possible? I mean it's been discussed that the fans can solve a mystery, but can the "fans" (of anti-fans) actually write a story? What if the sound file is not part of the original creator's story but it still adds to the story? I think this corporate phenomenon can work both ways...

Bree's email: breesnuggles15@yahoo.com Cassie's email: cassiestruggles18@hushmail.com
I reached Bree via her YouTube account. I asked that she write me back on email, and the address that came up was the one above.
I do think the person uploading the videos is at least connected to the person writing me email.
As for Cassie, her email came to me out of the blue.

Virginia got yahoo email? That means she got their IP's and can track down location/ISP/proxies.
I've PM'ed her on where it shows up in raw email source, I don't know what mail client she's using, though (to tell her how to view raw source)....

I snipped X-headers (the ones internal to NYT, for V's sake.)
This tell us either the NYT has a message system blugeoning headers, or V's mail client is messing with the headers, or these guys are faking yahoo origins. ---- DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=Message-ID:Received:Date:From:Subject:To:In-Reply-To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding; b=XfDUHksENxoIE/v8YSY32dBrpqc8QuLtiwa4qGIVxVs3UC7RHjxXqyg+5JD0xRjhK8jiaFPlX22hk9sjvH5tt/hzJP0xLlnxEVr12+tdP3W7AA0vVwXhPe l4ceG369oPjRQEXqOMkyCPZveNwGcJVjOWhW1zqx/sXCrh9K/E96E= ; Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2006 11:27:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Jane Jones <breesnuggles15@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: agents? ---

How does this file sound. I've processed it pretty hard and stretched the vocals (without changing the pitch) to more clearly make out the words. Cassie ProcessedIt's a lossless WMA file (Windows Media Player 9.0 or later)

Hello, sorry came into this late. The Hushmail link on the original posting by Alissa no longer works. Can you give a catch-up on where it came from? Cassie sent it? To whom? Is it somewhere in the NY Times post replies to Virginia?? Help, please.
Ta,

long-time lg15 observer, first-time poster.
ok, so i don't have anything new on the audio file, but! i was thinking content-wise about "cassie": the swimming video talks about her as kind of an outcast, right? well.... not going to a william gibson place (i love his work, but would be bummed if this were marketing for him), but rather to a mythology place: could cassie be cassandra? like someone who gives dire predictions about the future but no-one listens?
except, of course, some disparate group of people in an internet chatroom...
regardless of where the lg15 thing goes i am LOVING the mystery of it!!

Sashimi: the audio was sent to Virginia from someone claiming to be Cassie. Specifically, "Cassie" sent Virginia a hushmail message that linked to the whispering audio file.
P.S. I hope you don't get turned off by the learning curve associated with reading these threads. Details on any particular topic tend to get spread out among various threads, as in this case.
