The majority of the evidence people use is from episode 51 I Completed the Ceremony. This is a video that was released a day after the episode where Daniel filmed the ceremony and the phorum erupted in complains about how nothing happened. It is possible that the retcon happened then and they decided no wait, that wasn’t the ceremony and started along this path.
However, I think it is more likely that they had planned on using Oct 12th from the beginning (or at least since the cookie vid) but they hadn’t anticipated the expectations to get so high that they could never meet them, so they gave us something as unexciting as possible and then said it was meant to be unexciting. With a lack of budget there was no way they could have lived up to what people wanted so they shot as low as they could, but admitted that it was on purpose and was just fake. (Don’t worry the REAL ceremony will be AWESOME, and the new website will be great, and there is gonna be tons of fun interaction, and…)
Either way I thought it was sloppy writing and has further distanced the show from the quality realistic mock blog it was before. It is now, without a doubt, a soap opera. Watch, next Daniel will figure out what the cult is up to, but then Lucy hits him on the head and he gets amnesia.
Also retcon or not, this still has the same effect as a Duffy in the shower – please just pretend all those episodes that no one really liked, and which kind of wrote us into a corner, didn’t happen. It is very unsatisfying as a viewer when writers do that.

(snip) It is very unsatisfying as a viewer when writers do that. Unless it results in Patrick Duffy in the shower.

maybe the creators need a reminder from sept 19th. www.techweb.com/wire/software/193003731"Beckett believes technology has hit the perfect storm to make it all possible. The group writes and shoots one show daily, and posts the video to the Internet that night. They spend the following 24 hours reading posted comments by viewers, so the video's characters know how to respond in the next day's script."

For the record, I love, love, love DrQuest for posting a picture of Patrick Duffy. *swoons* He was my biggest crush EVER and he should have won an Emmy for his one season of Aquaman. Ah, no no -- that show was named "The Man from Atlantis." And yes, he was HHHHAAAAAWWWTTTT. Even my little bitty proto-hormones noticed teh hawtt there.

So, is Lucy's last name Ferschild? (I've thought about naming a Sims character Lucy Ziho...) If so, Daniel has reason to worry.
I think Bree, at least should try to release a secret video or two, using her odd tags to lead fans. She could post a video under lonelygirl15, saying everything's allright. then lead us to other videos, saying something like "I have to put TAGS on my animals (holding up p.monkey and owen) for a rummage sale" then give one of her much missed bree-nods. at least give is the illusion she's a little worried about being watched.

It is really time for the creators to go back to the original reasons this series got popular (besides the whole "who is Bree?" controversy):
A smart, inquisitive, pretty, innocent and lonely girl that was just discovering the world outside of her own after being sheltered by her parents.
The "proving science wrong" episodes were funny and cute, but now they have bogged themselves down into a third-rate horror flick with not much horror involved.
As Halloween is just around the corner, that audience can probably find much more satisfying fare at the local cineplex.
This is just getting silly with more holes than swiss cheese.

mku77,
That is the express reason I posted it, I really hope they do and act on it.
Then again, I have been posting this same sentiment since Virginia's blog got into the action.
But, it sure would make the user experience much more enjoyable.

Wow, after many an argument with west on the uncovering, I find myself in agreement. The show lost the niche it had and I find myself mostly just making time when I can to check in and see what's up -- certainly not the dedicated research into every clue (or serious lack thereof) on every new video or message. Yawn

Once they have to resort to direct exposition, that's when you know they've gone off the rails.

To me, if the creators don't do something drastic or shocking soon, the series is pretty much dead. If they wanna keep taking the horror approach, they better fricken get some horror or an actual plot that MOVES. And I think it's a little too late to go back to the lighthearted track, not that I liked that much anyway.

i'm not really analyzying clues (apart from my short trip to adak island, and i found NUTHIN!), but i am still enjoying the series. perhaps my patience will be rewarded with some upcoming killer comeback videos.
