Hmm perhaps this will turn into the Parent Trap, except in this case the siblings find each other AFTER the parents disappear. Jonas's are Bree's birth parents, but they disappeared in 2000, and Bree's are the seperated-at-birth adoptive parents, one of whom was shot and one of whom might have gone evil or something. Or they both were adopted and end up finding their real family at the end kind of like... as I said is turning into before... THE DAVINCI CODE.

I agree, morninglory.
"What about Daniel's parents? Wouldn't they have a say in all this?" "Nope. Daniel's parents don't care about him." "Sounds good to me. Let's break for lunch."
I think a lot of it seems written that way. "What about Jonas' parents?" "Uh...They were lost at sea." "Why don't they go to the police?" "Uh...The order controls everything." "What was the ceremony really about?" "Uh...ceremony? Look! It's the Goodyear blimp!" "What? Where?" *runs off*

imparfaite: agreed. dead by his own instructions. I set up my tent in camp snapeisgood. also, just wanted to boast for a second that I got an O on the second wombats on JKR's site.
Par for the course that it may be, It's just sloppy writing. I would agree that parents of college students don't keep a close watch on their kids, but if anyone was living with me and didn't show up fo 3 weeks, I'd worry. There's always the glimmer of hope that his parents apathy is relevant, but a thick layer of mediocrity has settled over it.

sorry to confuse you with all the Potter talk, morninglory. I had just commented on Imparfaite's avatar, and it's relevance to whether or not dumbledore is really dead (sorry if that was a spoiler for anyone), which ties very closely in the question of snape's loyalties. returning to the topic at hand, I really need some sensible answers from the c's.

I mentioned elsewhere that there are (limited) indications of aliens in the storyline. The most obvious is the use of X-Files (c) like themes: occultism, genetic modifications (hinted at), drug manipulation, disappearance in the Hawaiian Triangle (yes, there is such a place, one of the so-called vile vortices--see wikipedia), Egyptian secret societies, international conspiracies, fear of the secret government. In the X-Files, the topic of UFOs is never far away, so the very existence of other X-File like themes at least hints at such a connection. Whether the writers plan on exploiting this is another story. They appear to have lost track of their own plot structure at this point, basically drifting in the wind.
