Whoa...the numbers go to the thousands....like 0004, instead of 004. Guess they plan on a long run.
Since you all brought up revver...has it been addressed why there are certain episodes not represented there? Like “Mysteries of My Past… REVEALED!” is only on youtube.

The reason that all the videos are not up on Revver yet, is because you need to get a copyright release to use copyrighted music on Revver. This is not required (well it is, but it isn't enforced) on YouTube, so when they were just making vids for YT they didn't take the time to get them. Now before they can upload them to Revver they have to either get the artist to sign off, or they use a different soundtrack for that video, as can be seen (err... heard) in some of the Revver versions.

Do they already have the release for "Crazy"? As I recall, you could hear it in the Leno clip.

Leno doesn't need permission to run a sampling of the clip. It falls under "fair use" because it's only a brief excerpt, and it's used to review Lonelygirl15. It's the same way they could play clips of the Grey Album where a DJ illegally released a mix of the music from the Beatles' White Album and the lyrics from Jay-Z's ('Hova himself, Jigga man, Prince of the Roc, Clyde 2003) Black album. But I think the question of whether or not it was okay for Lonelygirl15.com, Inc. to use this song and, more significantly, Grillz, is a big gray area. I think they could probably successfully argue that their production was commentary on the way these songs are appropriated into youth culture. Milo's a lawyer, perhaps he can weigh in? Think this is "Fair Use"?

Thanks guys. I suspected something like that.
Not to get to far OT, but Warner just agreed to licence all of it's music for youtube, so perhaps they'll start enforcing the music thing more closely.

So, what, that means someone can freely use WB-owned and public domain music in videos for YouTube, but they'll now be diligent about music from other sources? Staying slightly off-topic, what are good sources for researching whether a particular song is pre-licensed for YT or not?

jay - i'm sure what they did didn't fall under "fair use." even a short sample of a song is a problem. leno playing little bits is ok, just like its ok to quote a few sentences of a book in a book review. since the "grillz" song is so pivotal to that video, i doubt we'll ever see it on revver unless they get permission.

I don't think youtube will be more dillegent, but perhaps the other labels will start cracking down. SonyBMG is talking about a youtube deal too though. UNI isn't ready to deal yet? The press release: You can look under the recorded music (link above) and see the labels that fall under WMG. Bad Boy!
