that 350,000 isnt number of hits, its more likely the number of reloads from the ppl, i had to reload about 20times myself.

wileycoyote, we've seen it before, these guys are incredible spin doctors (remember the September 8 outing?). Their house could be crumbling down and they'd say "we are astounded and excited by this new change of residential structure!" I don't take what they say at face value.

Whoa...I missed a hurricane, eh? Everyone's recaps are cracking me up, though it sounds more sad than anything. All this to hook up Bree and Jonas in real time? Sucky.
Hye...LOL.
aside: youtube is having some schedualed downtime. Did that overlap the chat?

What I can’t fathom is why you would possible announce a chat before the new and super leet chat system was in place. If they knew userplane sucked (which it really does, and they were foolish to ever use it) why not wait till the replacement was not only up and running and had been tested as well. What was the hurry? To set in motion the already incredibly predictable act of Bree hooking up with Jonas?
Oh, and I agree that 350,000 is a complete misrepresentation of their numbers. I also can’t believe how everyone (except us) at the phorum think it was such an amazing experience.
Finally, I wish they would stop claiming all this stuff is new. It clearly isn’t, and has been done by people countless times before.

Last night was a complete and total mess and I don't know if I'm more upset with the phorons who are kissing serious "creator" ass, or the creators for messing that up so royally.
The 350,000 hit is totally bogus. I myself refreshed like 30 times looking for the "chat" link.
So I was also in IRC last night as well as the Web LG chat. I was there a half hour early in the Main room. The admins said that Bree would be entering the main room so us 100 peeps were lucky. There were a bunch of total and complete idiots in the chat. People saying ssshhh, admins telling people to SHUT UP. Others saying IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT LEAVE and just plain rudeness. Then at 9:20 pm or so, we start hearing that all the characters were in Bree's House 3. You couldn't join, but the number started rising. One Admin started broadcasting the chat and then that disappeared. One member said that they got into Room 3 by exiting the chat and then re-entering. I tried it and it worked. I couldn't read the screen because it was scrolling so fast it would jump like 30 lines at a time. It was utter chaos.
The JDSmith dude who was supposed to be the one responsible for the chat kept apologizing for not having it ready in time. The admins TOTALLY ABANDONED SHIP and all ran to the Room 3 and didn't update anyone of the other 200 or so people stuck in other rooms about what was going on.
I will NOT forgive the Creators for this major screw up. They could have tested the chat well before suggesitng this. Heck IRC would have been WAY better than the mess that was last night. I wasted an hour of my time, finding out nothing, having no interaction as promised. I was the one who noticed NikkiBowerReport leaving the Main Room that we were being "promised" the characters would appear in, well before the announcment was made that they were in Room 3. Someone tipped her off. I also noted Gemma saying that she wanted to come to the US - haven't seen that mentioned yet on here.
What a major screwup and waste of time.

Nikki has always seemed to have inside information, like knowing where the field of the ceremony exactly was, without any real way of being able to find that out. She has also made foreshadowing in the past which basically came true later on. Her latest prediction is about winds of change... clearly meaning that there will be a major upheaval like Daniel leaving, Gemma arriving, who knows, maybe both. Nikki is meant to be a narrator of sorts, who presages events with her ace reporting. She's far too connected to just be a fan. All signs point to her being secretly from the Creators. They probably want to keep it that way, a sage is not so good or effective if everyone knows she's being fed her answers.

Yeah I'd be interested to see if she is actually getting paid by them or if she just knows someone involved and gets inside info.
Edit: On a side note, I am glad I trusted my instincts and wasn't tempted to stay up last night for the chat!

I suppose it's my turn to confess that I do feel the collective mood of the Cove is perhaps a little too gloaty and mean-spirited on this topic. They made a big mistake, a very huge mistake, but it won't be a fatal one. The afterspin is what seems to have irritated us to the boiling point, and yes it is obvious and ridiculous, but they are still operating in a half-Hollywood filmmaking environment out there, where nobody feels comfortable admitting a flop is a flop until they're already well into their careers.
(cf Michael Bay, who still can't quite manage humble pie)
Will they learn from this mistake? It remains to be seen. Are they adjusting to the realities of their audience having shifted over time? Yes, it looks that way. The process, warts and all, is still interesting me a bit, even though I don't care three figs anymore for the story.

I dunno...I think you folks are being awfully harsh....unprofessional? Sure, but why do you expect them to roll something like this out perfectly the first time. Give them points for trying, and expect them to get it right the next time or two out. I think we have been giving the creators constant slack and upfront credit. The truth is, that the chat debacle is only another link the so far unbroken chain of embaressing and predictable mishaps. I mean really. Expert/Celebrity chats aren't exactly rocket science. Neither do you really need a super-special customised chat backend for it, nor (ridiculous to even suggest) a special piece of hardware. The problem with the creators seems to be that they do not really appear to know what it is they are actually doing, they do not seem to learn when something fails, and it is becoming really rather grating to see them still miss the marks by such wide margins. I couldn't even find a link to the chat on their page, instead I had to dig into the forums to find the announcement (which also didn't have any links, well doh!) and then had to search for the addresses. C'mon people. So what is the super special preparation they would need to do to actually have made this run smoothly? First of all, put the failsafe in place. This could have been very easily achieved. Open a room on any given IRC server, put some admins in it, change room rights to 'mute' for all, and done. Now they could have worked on their custom solution if they really wanted to have that. In the meantime they should have put a big red 'chat' button up, which leads to their failsafe (a java IRC client for example like we have on the Cove). And switch it if all pans out. Again, this is just one example. I am just really failing to be impressed with their conduct. They constantly speak of New Media, New Ground-Breaking Interaction, etc. Meanwhile, they constantly botch the real basics, don't seem to listen to their forum pointing these things out, nor seem to get some competent help (hey, sure they're filmmakers, but hey, the forum must be brimming with people who would be competent enough to put something together if they can't actually pay for professional support). The final straw, in my mind, is that they are asking for donations on top of that. To me, that is insulting. They made it clear that they want to be a business. Their motivation is to make LG15 successful. They are not doing this out of altruistic motivations of art for the people, right? There is nothing wrong with that per se. Fair compensation for a job well done. If they provide entertainment of worth, they deserve to be paid. What we are seeing right now, however, is that the quality of the show has dropped, or maybe it just failed to re-invent itself, or maybe they really don't know how to deliver on their promises. At the same time, they are mismanaging their community, and since nobody else seems to be willing to invest in them, they also ask their audience for hand-outs. I am sorry, if you still think I am being harsh, but really, you cut slack for people or a vision that is genuine. The creators seem to be just about spin doctoring and self-promotion at this point, and there is no slack for that in my book.

Seeing that laid out makes me realize how simple it would have been to avoid what happened. I am getting irritated by all the phorum posts saying 'hey they did the best they can,' when i know thats not true. If people want the Creators to succeed, don't judge them by the lowest of standards. I disagree with you there, which is OK, I see your point too. The paypal button was a product of fans requesting a way to make donations, albeit because some of us thought it would help save yousef.

Well, I am maybe a bit touchy about donations, but I think it is not very honorable to ask for them under certain conditions.
In my mind, if you are non-funded, and non-profit, and therefore rely on donations to provide a service (with the aim of breaking even), then it is perfectly fine to ask for donations.
If on the other end, you are clearly a business by design (and the creators made no pre-tense of this being non-profit), then you should either seek funding and have a plan to reap revenues later, ideally a product to sell, or a service to provide supported by advertising.
If you are profit-oriented, I find it highly dishonorable to ask for donations. It is also rather embaressing, because you are admitting to your customers that you would very much like to make money, but are simply unable to do with your skills, product or service. It makes you look incompetent.
I would like LG15 to be successful, but we are constantly reminded that the creators seem to have no actual plan for how to achieve that. Fine for the YT pond. In the real world they will be eaten alive.

Well they have finally launched their new chat interface. All it is, is a proprietary piece of software which they paid around $300 for. Either they actually had a custom solution which they have since abandoned, or they couldn’t figure out how to install a piece of software the other night.
I will admit it is kind of pretty looking, but I am surprised, considering how they losing so much money on the project, that they would opt for a proprietary solution instead of a free open source one.

Well they have finally launched their new chat interface. I logged in a few minutes ago. Kind o' laggy but seems to have the bells and whistles they need. As an aside, "The Creators" logged on for about two minutes while I was there. "They" asked me a question about how I liked the new chat client and I responded positively. I then asked (nicely...) if it was Amanda posting and they immediately logged off... They obviously don't like people peeking behind the curtain. The funniest part was that the chatting phorons (chorons) were so busy with "ZOMG the Creators are here!" comments that they did not get in on the chat with them. Same as it ever was...
