Episode 37: Going DeeperDescription: Sadie follows up with Chad in the boys locker room. Recap: Sadie interviews Chad in the locker room. He says all the right things and Sadie giggles. Oh, and get this: meathead, suck-my-dick Chad might go to medschool. Meanwhile, turns out Nikki really is cutting herself. Thoughts: I can't believe how Sadie buys into all of Chad's bullshit. Come on, Sadie--medschool? That's like 10 more years of institutions, yah. Plus, how are you going to feel when you find out he's getting someone else to give him pre-MCAT BJ's? Cue Chad: "What's a emcat?" Oh, and OIC does not like blood.

if sadie doesn't need to finish high school to try to be a journalist, why does chad need to go to medschool! start operating now!
that book was suspicious - alternate cancer therapies? aren't most med school wannabees the type that buy into traditional medicine?

Yeah, most medschool types I know turn their noses up at alternative medicine. Then you have the legaldocket types pushing green tea and thinking positive, and they usually don't have MDs. If Chad really did have a shot at going pro, he'll kick himself forever if he goes premed instead. I especially love how he is "considering" going to college, yet this is the spring of senior year--and you should have your college acceptance in hand if you're as ambitious as he's making himself out to be. I wonder if he's even taken his SAT's. If he quits soccer the best he will do for himself is probably to become a chiropractor for athletes.

*sigh* I think cutting yourself is, like, the new black. What will be next? Lighting yourself on fire?
Okay, well, as I said I hate the way this is now brought into every teen drama - like anorexia was a few years ago. I hate the way it trivialises people who really do have these problems quite seriously.
However, I do think that in regards to Nikki's character it is pretty fitting as we have seen earlier signs of insecurity and self esteem issues. So, PQ - you've taken us down this road, I hope you make it worthwhile.
Also, as we know Sadie is hiding an inner bimbo. It's no surprise she believes Chad, as she also believes she can be employed as a journalist without a single qualification.

*sigh* I think cutting yourself is, like, the new black. What will be next? Lighting yourself on fire? I love that Sadie is secretly a bimbo and Nikki is secretly an emo. You might not be that far off on the fire. I remember reading a story awhile back that in Japan burning has become more common than cutting -- usually in the form of hot-iron brands or extinguishing cigarettes on the skin. The study concluded that there's little difference between cutters and burners, but there's a significant difference between people who both cut and burn vs. people who only cut or burn.

Woah, JayHenry... just woah. Who would have guessed there would be such a significant difference between 'and' & 'or'. I did find that study slightly amusing... probably because it's just so absurd. I just think of it all as self-harm, and people do it generally when they have depression, and/or self-esteem issues, and they do it because at the time you do it, it gives you a sense of relief. If you are angry/frustrated with things - which can often turn to anger against yourself, it does provide an immediate outlet to express that anger. It's a real problem that many struggle with on a real level. But I hate this whole emo thing where it is suddenly cool, and the media jumping on this bandwagon isn't good either. I hate to sound old but, kids these days! A few weeks ago two 16-year-old emo girls here in Australia made a suicide pact on MySpace, with videos and all. And they actually went through with it. It really makes the analogy of lemmings ring true, doesn't it.
