Anybody seen any of his videos?
Am I missing something? Is he someone important?
He is evening more boring than Geriatic, he droans on so much. takes ages to make his points, looks about 70, smokes pipes, thinks he is cool, utter see-unt.
Thoughts?

He's so weird I don't even want to start about him.
I just went and watched his most recent video and what the hell... ok he literally spends 2 and a half minutes setting up the fact he wrote and sent youtube an e-mail yesterday about a problem. Atleast his old videos I saw were entertaining in their weirdness, his anti-Renetto ones. This one is just like watching paint dry. GET ON WITH IT OLD MAN. How has he gotten 170 comments in 7 hours?! I guess these are fans leftover from his anti-Renetto days, but most of the comments are positive! Only one comment uses the word "boring", which is completely fitting for him. Another however says, and this perfectly describes it: "Good lord. Please get on on with it there Captain Digression."
From the time I started typing this until I finished he is STILL talking about the SAME "check-boxing of popular channels" or whatever. Oh now he's starting with an example, I bet this little explanation won't take shorter than 4 mintues to explain- an hour in youtube time.

i don't really watch him, but what i've seen makes me think he plays more of a character than himself. only due to the recent renetto/solomon controversy (completely overblown) have i paid it any attention

Recently Greg has been really playing up the fact the he is an exaggerate character. He even had someone else (redskulled) join up with him (Redskulled has since admitted that he was playing a character and has left YouTube, because people hunted him down. No one can seem to get a joke on YT). Personally I really like Greg. I never agree with him and he usually gets me really frustrated and I want to just yell at him. But I think that is what he is going for, so bravo, because he has it down perfectly.

Agree Hye.
That video, well the first 5 minutes of it, which was all I could handle, was very painful. Like you say, he just droans on telling how he sent an email and how it probably won't get read.
What a load of cock, I lost interest soon after that so don't know if his point was valid. I didn't leave a comment, somthing along the lines of 'get to the point already!'
Having said that I would probably watch a few of his videos if he limited himself to 5 or so minutes.
Any chance of a brief outline as to his dealings with renetto?

Ahhhhhhhhhh, guess what. Now I know why he made this. Apparently youtube now offers you the chance to subscribe to "popular channels" they ordain every day or two. He's talking about how this is evil and an illegitimate way to gain subscribers. Right now he's lauding how he got his video legitimate ways, by "earning" them. Meanwhile he had earlier on said he wouldn't mention a name, but someone else has gotten a lot lately but his number of video views has not gone up, meaning to him that people just randomly subscribe but don't take part. He's saying this was the worst thing youtube has ever done, compromises the worth of subscribing. Well, I got curious so I signed up with a new account to see who were lucky enough to be picked to be in the popular channels section and allegedly compromises all of YouTube according to GS. Well... so you all don't have to do it the four channels who show up are "The Bastard Fairies", "TIME's Person of the Year 2006" (perhaps they paid to get this free promotion spot?), SadieDammit, and... RENETTO. So I see, despite this appearing to be a thank goodness finally non-renetto involved video, it's pretty clear the only reason GS made this was to bash renetto's free publicity to those who are signing up. Technically, this is kind of stupid, because in a way being the anti-renetto made GS what he is today. One would think the more exposure renetto gets, the more people will find GS's videos and the more subscribers he will "earn" as well. But I guess he just hates renetto that much he'd rather spite him than benefit from him. Whatever, extremely weird video. The only reason I got through all 14 minutes is because I was typing this with it on the in the background.
(Haha, he just said he was going to disable ratings for this view but I gave it a 1 from the very beginning so he never did turn it off.)

wixy, here's my summary: Renetto vs. Solomon in 500 words or less: Renetto, prominent user and cheerleader of YouTube made a video complaining about YouTube cheating, saying the management seemed disconnected from the "Community." Co-founder of YouTube, Steve Chen left a comment (his username is simply "steve") on the video saying (paraphrasing), We're aware of the problem, bare with us as we work on it. Renetto began an email discussion with Chen, and later Chen called Renetto on a conference call with some other users to discuss some things they were working on. Renetto asked, "Can I tell people about this in a video?" Steve Chen said, "Yes." Renetto took down his complaint video, and made a video telling people what had happened. The controversy stemmed from the fact that Renetto, some months ago, made a video where he pretended to be talking to co-founder of YouTube Chad Hurley on his cell phone. That video was obviously a joke, but some took it as real, and he later clarified he was joking. So months later, when he really was talking to Steve Chen, some refused to believe it. The most prominent critic was/is vlogger Greg Solomon. A mysterious character that spouts out long-winded nonsense in a calm, authoritative, condescending tone while chewing on an unlit pipe. Almost all of his videos are responses to renetto, leading some conspiracy theorists to speculate that they're working together, but there's no evidence of this. Led by Solomon, a contingent of users called renetto a liar, and called on him to prove his story. Amused by this, renetto made a video where he bet any and all takers $100 each that he was telling the truth. I think one person took the $100 bet, but Greg Solomon bet his video camera, and some other nutjob bet $1000 renetto was lying. After a few days, renetto presented his evidence: The comment page of his original video with Steve Chen's comment, along with verification that this was indeed the real Steve Chen's account; a comment from Maryrose, an employee of YouTube, saying that yes, they'd been in contact with renetto; a video by YourTubeNews reporting that Steve Chen confirmed renetto's story to them though email; a video made by a much less prominent YouTuber showing emails he got from Steve Chen complete with headers, proving at least that he is contact with users. Presented with this evidence, many critics apologized. Renetto made it clear that he didn't really want anyone's money, or Solomon's camera. Solomon, either in denial or in character or both, declared victory. Renetto then posted a video titled "Greg Solomon...may I show everyone your emails?" where he promised not only more proof of his contact with Chen, but also to "expose" Greg Solomon, that is, with Greg's permission. Greg's channel has been silent since... The end? Since then, they've both posted a few videos, but renetto hasn't posted "Greg Solomon Exposed" and Greg just keeps saying he's won. I agree that Greg is definitely putting on an act, playing a role, and playing a game. BUT I don't believe his motivations are necessarily "all in fun." And I don't believe just because he's adopted a persona that it proves he is a "character actor" along the lines of the girl who plays Little Loca. I can take a joke, and I find some of his vids funny. I find the concept funny, but the amount of time put into these videos, i.e. so many videos that go on for so long, all attacking renetto, makes it sad whether he's an actor or not, and I sense that's how renetto sees it too.

I used to enjoy Renetto's video, but the whole Steve/Renetto/Greg Solomon ordeal has really shown these people in a sad light.
For one, they take YT and themselves much, much too seriously. This little speck of fame that seems to rub off a Steve email seems to have clouded people's judgement.
If Renetto had been more mature about this all, he had simply ignored Solomon and moved on with his disccusions of the powers at YT. But now, dragged it all out in public in the most grating and painful way possible. If I were Steve, I would never want to include him in my discussions again. Too much drama, too much ego.
While Solomon is entertaining as the condescending professor type (especially making absolute nonsense sound profound), the fact he only chose to spar with Renetto makes him also look sad. He could have developed his character in many different directions. But everybody just seems to sniff at the attention trail.
I think it's all a bit sad really, and especially after the 3rd video unwatchable, bad, bad high school drama.

Who is Greg Solomon then? Is he important?
In Renetto's response to Bravesgirl5 video, about LG being a fake, he refers to Solomon. He says something along the lines of 'the interent is only for real people, even freaking Greg Solomon said that.'
Did they have any contact/relationship when that was posted?Unsure of a date, must of been end of September?

I believe they did. Solomon surfaced and challenged Renetto before the Steve mail thing even happened. Obviously as a bid to garner himself some subscribers.
Is he important? Only if you feel strongly about current affairs in the YT community. Otherwise nope, just another vlogger who created at least the semblence of an original character.
Somehow the guy is kinda iconic though. He really reminds me a little of Bob Dobbs, of Church of the Subgenius (in)fame(y).

Greg Solomon = *yawn* I can't spend ten minutes of my life watching him or Renetto. well, then, you must not care about the youtube "community" :-) What community? I don't like listening to middle age men drone on and on about their lives and opinions and don't even attempt to make it exciting or watchable. IMO, 10 minutes is about 7 minutes too long for a video on youtube.
