A thought to ponder. I have been thinking. If bree and her parents are religious. And bree is to participating in a ceremony, that her parents cannot attend (it is so special). Then why would her parents allow her to be alone in a room with a teenage boy? And even more, why with the door closed? Bree has clothes strewn about inn her room and he lay on her unmade bed… I know that in most religions, that kind of thing is frowned upon, if she is really that religiously important, then why her parents trust their relationship like that? I am by no means a prude….but I don’t see parents with a promising and Religiously important daughter, Allowing that kind of thing…in religion, sometimes reputations are one of the most important things……so, if the Bree is to participate in a ceremony that even her parents cannot attend….then wouldn’t their be pressure from the others in the religion to keep Bree chaste and pure? Or at least her reputation?... btw, when Bree let slip that she was learning a language that had not been spoken for Years, that’s when the wool was lifted from my eyes, that all is not what it seems…..

that has been mentioned quite a bit (even by "bree" herself) No one really know, but I imagine it's an important plot point.

I get what you're saying totally. It doesn't make sense. My parents are not religious yet I was NEVER allowed to be alone with a boy behind closed doors when I was a teen! By the way, I "exalted" you for that because it's a very valid point.

I'm also assuming chastity is part of the religious ceremony plot, hence Dad's reluctance to let her go hiking or out to parties or otherwise have any significant alone time w/Daniel outside of the house. So it's not just a case of having over protectively strict religious parents in general, it's necessary for the storyline itself. However, it's also necessary for Daniel to be in her room, because he's a character in the story, and it's necessary for the door to be closed so she can believably record the vids without too much fear of discovery by her parents.
I also assume that part of the subtext of the conversation Daniel and Dad had was to throw a bit of an intimidation factor into the story, kind of a "let's discuss what kind of behavior I expect from you in regards to my daughter, whom I love and would easily kill for" type of deal. It was a rather long conversation according to Bree, if I remember right, so it seems reasonable that they discussed more than just filming a play. Kind of an uneasy compromise for the sake of the story. They're allowed to be alone together because presumably one or both parents are in the house, and Daniel has the fear of Dad in him.
