LOL I'm honored you're honored morningglory! Last night I was in the process of typing a whole long deconstruction of how this episode Gemma acts totally different and has changed from the Gemma of the first three episodes. And it is NOT just because of the editing, some things she does were all during one take, VERY Bree-like. It's kind of more with her mannerisms in the first half, while after the arguement it's more things she says. She suddenly resorts to using big vocabulary words. Especially when she describes "my roommates are probably the ones who think I'm (big word) and (big word)." Reminded me EXACTLY of Bree's line in My First Kiss where she says (in a very forced-sounding manner might I add) "why is it seen as good when people act (big word) and lucivious." Or something like that I forget the exact quote. But Gemma in the first half acts much more perky and emotive, what she does with her lip when she's thinking of what annoys her most, then the way she says flatmates, it's all just like Bree. That part was done in one take so it's not the editing which made it more Breelike, it was her behavior.

I agree it's not only the editing, but the writing and directing. She's a wannabree in this vid, for sure. I'm not convinced her acting is any worse than Jess or Yousef in some of their videos, but I will say that one bit that fell really flat in this video was when she said, "Beasts." *cut to closeup* "Not Danielbeasts, mind you. Real beasts." She said it too seriously. With all the switching back and forth between the serious mood and the cute mood, they got their wires crossed. It sounds like she's literally warning Bree that "the nicest people can turn into these nasty, demon beasts".....hey....wait a minute....maybe it was a hidden warning.....BREE RUN!
I do think all these double meanings are at least leaking out of Mesh's subconscious if not intentional.

I find it kind of fascinating when an author creates multiple characters with similar aspects. "bree" has probably been in mesh's head for a long time. she may have some aspects of people he knows in her. gemma's character was probably never as well developed, even assuming she is some version of the original idea for Girl #2. Thomas Wolfe had two main characters in his four published novels (two published posthumously): Eugene Gant (1st two) and George Webber (2nd two). But they were essentially the same character. Gemmers is not supposed to be just like Bree, but its not surprising there are similarities.

Gemma is the Bree that never got chosen for the ceremony and got away from the community and went to college. This is all so Bree can see that she can't escape the demons even if she runs away, they'll be her flatmates. So it's either stay and let them steal her free will...or go and have her flatmates steal her biscuits! RUBBISH!
I don't mind having Gemma as a character, but..."Bree and her parents might have been disappeared by the order, just like I said, but I'm going to do a cute video about having flatmates!" is a little...funny.

Gee.. I like girls.. I love the way this Gemma little thing handles her lips.. Her eyes.. Her neck.. What would she think of me if she knew how juicy and tender do her lips feel in my mouth.. How close am I to fall hypnotized by her glance, I almost fall inside her when she opens wide her blue eyes like two clear water cascades into her soul.. If she knew how bad do I envy Dracula every time she makes those girly head side movements exposing her silky neck skin under her hair.. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.. I'm glad tonight is not full moon for I'd be singing to it like a wolf.. Delicious! In Mr Crowley's words from the goddess Nuit.. "I give unimaginable joys on earth: certainty, not faith, while in life, upon death; peace unutterable, rest, ecstasy; nor do I demand aught in sacrifice".. Can you fellow males think of a better way to describe feminine essence? You get all that just by enjoying their presence.. (Little voice coughs inside my head very persuading to proceed on another course..) OK ok.. I don't want to be X rated.. Yeah.. Err.. The Video.. Right.. Anybody noticed any familiar object in the room? Let's say the lamp and the picture.. The bed cover is also the same color.. Could this bed be the same couch Gemma was sitting on her last video? Lamp is the other side though.. How lonely is lonely? Gemma feels very lonely to me in this vid.. When you have been a loner for a long time your social needs push you to establish a solid relation with yourself.. Division occurs and withing your soul two extreme opposites are hosted.. A constant interior fight thereafter is developed where your other "you" becomes your worst enemy.. When life pushes you to real social life with real beings again you already have a very developed scheme on relations based on your experiences with yourself.. So you tend to think that other people are like other parts of you.. And you assume they know everything about you.. So you expect to make friends very easily.. You expect not to have to introduce yourself to the other person and get to know each other before deeper conversations can be developed.. You could just begin a discussion about quantum physics right after saying "hello!" for the first time to that person.. And then comes deception and you run back to what you already feel comfortable with: Inside yourself. Gemma shows signs clear signs (At least to me) of being in the adaptation process from the isolation she knew for life when she was kept closed in a glass box by her parents.. Safe from everything and everyone.. Even herself! It's tender to me to see what a severe intrusion into her limits is to have a few cookies eaten by this female flatmate.. Probably starving due to an anxiety surge.. Or maybe she was just hungry and loves biscuits.. Whatever.. She confesses being somehow aware of her weirdness for she accepts to know they think she is the freaky one.. But even if they all agree she still is too proud to accept they may be right.. She laughs and pretends to know better than anyone else.. Ok, I give her credit here, it's way too hard to accept one's self-image its wrong.. Of course who would know you better than yourself.. Right?.. Or maybe not? I remember now when she mentioned she had gone out for dinner with some friend.. The experience was a revelation of messianic proportions to her! You know.. I can see (Jackie is her name right?) Gemma's potential in the very last seconds of the vid.. When she says "Bree! I hope to hear from you soon!".. She is not Breeing anymore and within just a a few words her body language says more than all she put in words in the whole vid.. I hope she just let herself be.. And the script and the creators allowed her too.. I'd like to say more.. But don't think such a long post would be of interest to anyone.

Wow Joss that is quite a dedication to Gemma... a little too dedicated... I guess some people like giraffe necks.. *blah blah blah!* (those are Dracula noises). But yeah, her lead in to this video is way too insane. Her first three videos are all serious about how if Bree doesn't do the ceremony she'll die but if she does it she'll die, and then Bree goes missing... so Gemma is like hmm I haven't heard from Bree lately, she's probably dead, but instead of alerting the authorities I think I'll... talk about my flatmates! It was way super phoney. They should have started out with this one. A carefree way for her to begin. Then should come Nut Kills Man where she mentions she recognizes someone. The way she recognized Bree in her very first video made it too blatantly connected. An early one talking about mundane vlog stuff like this would have been a much better start. Then she could get all uber-serious about the ceremony and remain so, not just totally drop off the serious cliff into the world of biscuits. Way too surreal.

I noticed that I've been breally strict on Gemma until now.. Guess Breenism works fine with me.. Girls finally there is a way to turn a wild beast like me into a harmless pleasing pet.. ;D

Credit goes to stantheman for that one. wannabree -- a new breed of YouTuber whose emulation (if not outright appropriation) of lonelygirl15's antics, intrigue and predicaments knows no bounds. Best exemplified by NoHoGirls, WeHoGirls, LucyInLA, Katers17 and Taraiscrushed.

WHERE IS BREE!!!!! I'M WORRIED FOR HER. I guess this is the reaction we're supposed to be having. Imagine if they'd done something like this before they were discovered? Then we'd be worried. As it is, I think we're mostly bored, no?
