Hey All-
I have adopted two soldiers and one full unit of Marines (119 guys, 2 gals) serving in Iraq. Most of them started their tour in the last two months.
I want to download some of the funny videos from YouTube, etc, and WeHo/NoHo, SH7F and Bree IMS' to burn on DVD and put in the care packages. They are desperate for entertainment, especially as the holidays approach.
Can I do this? How?
Please help the technologically challenged!
Steph

If you're on a PC, the Windows MovieMaker software that comes free with Windows allows you to take the files from Keepvid and burn them onto a DVD.

What a wonderful idea, Steph -- did you do this through a local organization or through a website? This could be a great project for us to sponsor as a collective.

Hey BM, A couple of suggestions, not covered so far, Have a look at using Nero Vision and StartSmart the full suite is feature rich for cutting and editing, Also for recording and converting anything to anything in video try... Xilisoft rm convertor. www.xilisoft.com/video-converter.html WinAVI video convertor www.winavi.com/video-converter.htmRiva FLV encoder www.rivavx.com/?encoder (WORKS IN REVERSE TOO) CuCusoft AVI to DVD VCD www.avi-to-dvd.com/(My personal favourite For Speed,Nero takes a lifetime to convert files) Most are free but if they charge you let me know and i will make my copies available to you, One that i use all the time is Xilisofts 3gp convertor, where you download/rip from the web then convert to 3gp and put onto cellphone usually if i am doing a vid or DVD for some one I will put a copy in 3gp/mp4 onto the disc as well (Tiny files) to load onto their phone so they can share via bluetooth, Burning software is a matter of taste but for quick raw burns try www.cdburnerxp.se/download.phpHope this helps,if you need help or info then give me a shout and we can have a quick tutorial NOW......Noa "as a collective?"..With the greatest respect to your idea.,Please remember that we are not all american and some do not see it as "our" fight/struggle or anything to do with some of us at all, whilst I understand the position you guys and your troops are in,It is not really relevant to someone who stays in a highly diverse and multicultural area the majority of whom dont agree with or deem necesary to be part of the whole thing/mess/war....whatever, If an individual wishes to support another group of people, then I think that should be admired , but if we as a collective go down a road of ethnocentricity it really defeats the diverse nature of the cove and its inhabitants,we are all very different and have had different life experience which is positively reflected in posts chats etc.and on the Net that is rare indeed I would not wish to undermine that by doing what you suggest,as it leaves us open to bringing a political slant onto the cove which is one road I,personally do not want to go down, I am not anti-war by any means but i just think there are better places to lend your support, I also think that it does deserve some serious debate,Hence the nature of this post..I am not often this vocal but some things I hold dear to me so please excuse my passion on the said matter,

Mark, if you read my poem thread you will find that I *do* have at least mild anti-war leanings. This isn't support for the war; it's support for some people who made a social contract with the government and now have to fulfill their part of that contract even if the government is putting them in a situation I don't agree with.
I do understand that for a good portion of Americans, "Support our Troops" is code for "Support this war." But it isn't like that for all of us.
