Hi,
I am still navigating this board hence my rather uncharacteristic quietness at the moment *winks*
John: I agree with your quote > "Personally, and this is just one guy's opinion, it looks like they're borrowing elements from a sort of generalizaed occultism, which is why a lot of the details don't match up to our expectations."
Lee, if I may quote you and respond.
"On the other hand, her set of "beliefs" seemed to have enough specific preparations, required steps and rule-sounding elements that you would expect SOMEone to be at least loosely familiar with them-- to come forward to say, "yes, it sounds like the she has been selected for the honor of Annual Purification Queen of the traditional Thelemic Fall Harvest Festival "
Therein is our problem. We are being left with *very* vague comments and cannot pin down the religion though I am sure more clues will crop up in later videos so we can rule out some ideas. Being that her faith is portrayed as heavily ritualised one would expect this branch to be documented.
And could we get Rona to fetch over his comment on why the age issue is so important with regards to this upcoming ceremony? I think he very nicely puts down the general concensus on this upcoming rite being a bit dodgy.

Which comments? All of them? :-) There were the "she's not spiritually old enough to practice the full range of magick and study" comments, the "Thelema has some practices that would be dangerous/illegal for minors to participate in" comments, and the "well, not being old enough for sex-magick doesn't mean she can't be part of mass or other church ceremonies" comments....
Or I could just summarize the comments. Uhm... Like I just did. ;D

Cheeky git. We should stick to the summaries then in case it turns into another mahusive rant on the Thelema.

the summary is rather concise. with the information we have, and the working knowledge we have of THELEMA, it doesn't conform to any standard ritual. granted with the offshoots et c., anything is game. and then there is the whole "these scriptwriters never knew the level of dissection they would be faced with and just amalgamated a subplot based on hogwash to keep us tuned in" type of thoughts.

LG tells us that these ceremonies only happen "once in a really long while" and that they are "very difficult to attend". Maybe the specifics of the cermony (or the ceremony itself) are only known to a small portion of the followers so it would be near impossible to get info on what religion it is a part of.
Maybe instead of searching for standard/common rituals within religious sects it would help to examine huge events that are supposed to happen every century or so. LGs age is listed as 103 on her youtube profile and 99 on myspace.
Or maybe, instead of going off the deep end, I should do my homework.

But, she says that her mom will help her with getting ready. If her mom is not one of the ones that knows about it, and that's why she can't go, then surely she wouldn't know enough to be able to help.
I do think it's probably something like that though.
