Maybe we can gain some insight if we go at this backwards: So we all have our overpriced mocha-latte-cinos and we're sitting in the boardroom at our hip office discussing our new marketing scheme. "Let's do a viral campaign" "Good idea. And instead of building some elaborate website, let's use an existing one." "MySpace?" "No. How about YouTube?" "We'll upload a series of videos that gradually moves towards our release date." "Yeah - each video will have clues." "Awesome. We'll give away clues - like for 4 months" "Why don't we weave the clues into an on-going story, like a TV show?" "So what kind of story? Who will be in it? How will it progress?" "And how do we keep people from knowing who is doing it?" ...add your own ideas about this "conversation" ...

I meant it to be serious. At least for tryiing to understand why "The Creators" are doing things the way they are doing them.
For example, they had to agree to find a young-looking, attractive "no name" actress and then give her the provocative name lonelygirl15. Since there are people behind the scenes making these decisions, there are IMHO things to be learned by understanding why they have done what they have done.

You know, it's funny. All this time I was thinking, "If it wasn't for the real/fake debate, I wouldn't care about the plot." But know that we definitivley know it's fake, I do hope they keep making them. Lord help me, I actually want to see what happens to Bree and Daniel.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to know. A good story is being told here, regardless of whether it's "real". I can see how lots of folks who were led to believe it was can feel conned by the revelation, but it shouldn't detract from the story.
I also (and I'm sure 'm in the minority here) think the creators did the right thing by posting that message. The press was knocking down their door, doing exactly what the press do best -- asking questions. Isn't it better to turn yourself in than get caught?
