www.myspace.com/lonelygurl15In my experiences using Myspace, the validity of a profile is based on two things: the "Top 8" and the "Comments" section. The majority of people use Myspace as a way to stay connected with acquaintances, family, friends etc. To be believable, an account HAS to have these real life connections (which are reflected in one's Top 8 and comments.) In crosschecking her Top 8 with her comments section, we see that almost all of her top 8 friends have left comments. In each case, these comments were short/impersonal or referencing her vids; "thanks for the add!","love your vids","you should break up with daniel." Doesn't ring too personal/familar to me. If Bree was authentic, wouldn't we see comments such as "camp was awesome this year. I can't believe so and so tipped the canoe out on the lake...my clothes are still soaked. lol. Anyway, looks like you're a big internet star now...crazy!" ? Even if we suspended belief and said "you know what, ok...this girl is home schooled/sheltered, she never had the chance to make friends ," what about cousins? what about members of her church? what about the people she goes to camp with every year? Surely these people would show up on her friends list. Surely these people would have left her comments. That, of course, would require "these people" to have existed in the first place. ?

The brilliant thing about this world they've created is that all of those questions can be explained either by the sheltered/religious angle or simply the general overprotectiveness of her parents. If she knows people from church or camp, those people also know her parents. Obviously she's not going to tell them she has a myspace in case it gets back to her parents. If her parents don't know about things like YouTube because of some aspect of their religion, chances are other families in the same religion are going to be similarly sheltered from the online world.
Her myspace isn't about staying connected with people in her real life (and I'd actually dispute your premise that most people use it this way in the first place), it's about reaching and expanding her online fanbase.

it's about reaching and expanding her online fanbase. Exactly. The MySpace page was created at the same time as her website and Yahoo email address (May 12th). She finally linked to it on her YouTube page nearly two months after it was created, when fan demanded it. Most (if not all) of her MySpace friends are random people who like her videos or think she's hot. It's a way for fans to feed fan interest.

It's not most, though. It's all. I checked the comments on her myspace and none of them were from "real life" acquaintances. I 100% agree that the site is for her youtube fans, just as the myspace for most musicians is for the fans of their music. But even the most famous of musicians mix and match in terms of fan/friends. I have never looked at Paris Hilton's myspace, but I'm sure her friends list would include the pages of at least some of her real life friends. (Kimberly Stewart, Nikky Hilton)
Lonelygirl's myspace has ZERO real life friends.
If you want to go down the road that none of her camp/church friends have access to the internet, then why does "Bree" have access to the internet? Why does she have a webcam? Why is she the exception? Are we to assume that she uses the family internet connection but her parents do not?

Please clear this up for me: Daniel has no Myspace page? It was revealed that Danielbeast of Myspace was hyemew. If Daniel has a page, why would he not be in the top friends?

There's a certain credibility to Bree and Daniel as characters, and I guess I meant, as a character, why wouldn't the character Bree add Daniel the character. He is her only good friend after all.
Doesn't Daniel have a myspace page? What is the username/url?
