he is a bit of a knobhead.
i know michael jackson is odd, but the way martin bashir lured him in and then betrayed him to get a good documentary was a little bit off. yes that is the technique of most critical documentaries but it was clear that jackson was not really of sound mind. it all seemed a bit exploitative and didn't sit well.
that and the fact that his voice grinds on my nerves.

My analysis might be redundant for the veterans here, but here it is anyway.
Martin Bashir: "...in their first television interview" Lie! NBC broadcast a very similar story with an interview over two months ago.
Bill Weir: "these guys actually set out to redefine entertainment in the digital age." According to the wired article, they set out to get a movie deal. It was only later that they started talking about a "new art form." correction: helping them "usher in an era of interactive storytelling where the line between 'fan' and 'star' has been removed"
Miles, on approaching Jessica Rose in June 2006: "At the time, nobody really knew about YouTube. And of course internet video, 'what the heck is internet video?' It didn't even really exist in any capacity at that time" Big overstatement.
Bill Weir: "this is the lowest of low budget hollywood" Miles: "absolutely...No-budget." Now, I know that Hollywood productions cost tens of millions, sometime hundreds of millions of dollars, and this is the comparison they were making. But "the lowest of low" is still a bit of an overstatement. Miles does remind us later in the interview: "We're still draining our savings accounts and maxing out our credit cards."
Greg: "I said, what you can't ever do is you can't ever lie to people. If people say, 'are you an actress?' or 'are you fake?' you can't say 'no.'" That was Greg's advice, but it wasn't followed strictly. When gohepcat posted a video titled "Lonelygir15 a fake?" and asked why lonelygirl15.com was registered before any videos were posted, Danielbeast commented that he registered the domain for Bree. He didn't say, "we're not fake," but to me it's a distinction without a difference. I think they did lie, but I'm not upset. I guess it depends on your point a view.
In the interview, all three creators say they "absolutely" made it all up as they went along. No master plan. Speaking about the future, Greg says, "We have plot points built out for a very long period of time, multiple characters coming in." which implies they are perhaps planning more now than in the past.
It definitely seems that Mesh and the cast are the "show" and Miles and Greg are the "business." It makes sense that those of us who are artistic types identify with Mesh, but it's interesting that all three are necessary to produce the show. Who edits the videos?correction: Mesh and Greg have input, but Miles directs and edits the show. correction: At least until recently, Mesh wrote and directed, Miles shot and edited, among other things.

Smashing: You're off on Miles' creative role as was the Wired piece. Mesh is not the "show"and would never claim he was. Miles doesn't get nearly the credit he should as a creative artist. Until recently, Miles did all of the camera work, the editing and the music, some of which I find quite brilliant, and which gave LG it's distinctive charm and energy, especially in the early vids. And remember, it was Jon Fine at Business Week, not the Creators, who first spoke of LG as a new art form.

Well in that case good job Miles, he really did a great job with those early ones; the camera-work and editing were all really awesome.

It's a tone which I helped set, and which I wish I had not contributed to.

It's a tone which I helped set, and which I wish I had not contributed to. but i enjoyed those rants, as wrong and evil as they were. (j/k) anyway, if you want to feel worse, see what mesh posted in the phorum about the wired article, i crossposted here in our Wired thread.
