I logged into HyeMew on youtube recently and came across some old correspondence with Bree back when she was Bree. I figured that in honor of the Cove's one year anniversary I should post them here, as a way for everyone to enjoy some relics of a bygone age.
August 6, 2006- If she ever wrote back I didn't keep it, so I'm sure she/Amanda didn't:
I assume that, based on your popularity, if you use AIM or any of those type things you won't be giving yours out, right?
Keep up the good work. Your performance in your videos has this je ne sais quoi that makes them all so great, and the fact something intelligence-oriented is popular for once is refreshing.
I sent this e-mail August 7, 2006 and Bree read it the same day. I wrote to her with Bree in quotation marks, since I suspected she wasn't who she said she was. This was my first interaction with her.
"Bree"- I can't believe you like Aimee Mann too. I never hear of anybody that does. Also great addition of Iz's OTRainbow to your myspace. Anyway I read there that poem someone wrote for you and decided to try writing one for you myself. Whoops, I never thought of a title though. Let's just pull an Emily Dickinson and use the first line as the title.
[poem not included in this reprint, it can be found on her myspace]
Bree responded:
[glow=red,2,300]very good! i like it...i'll have to find more space on myspace for it are you on myspace too? it's so much better to write on there...so if you request me as a friend i'll add you (if you're not already). I'm such a dork when it comes to music & that's why i've asked people to send me their recs. I;ve been learning a lot about music that way![/glow]
I responded on the 7th and she read this on the eighth. I like the naive attempts to discern the actress's true identity. She was getting a large amount of views but the mystery hadn't truly gotten going yet, but still the naivty of asking her who she really was strikes me as pretty funny now after what was to come:
I've always been proud of not having myspace (hope you find more room on it!), however now I'm kicking myself haha. Ironically, I actually did make a 'fake' myspace account today, but you might not be happy if you saw it.. You need to get facebook, its much better. Of course to be on it you can't be homeschooled...
IF by any chance the real you does have facebook though please tell me! I wouldn't let anyone know or anything. With so many people spouting conspiracy theories people would have no reason to believe me anyway. I wouldn't want to mess with the mystery that is lonelygirl, and I applaud you on the incredible mystique you've built up. Or how about AIM? I think I saw AIM boxes open on your computer screen in the latest video.
When it comes to songs, I think a cool song you could slip into one of your next videos is Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap. I can email it if you can't download it. I also have lots of neat Middle Eastern type music if you end up having a need for that in a video. I sense that scene would have to involve the safari hat and a dancing P.Monkey
Bree wrote back on August 8th, 9:44 AM YouTube (Pacific) time:
[glow=red,2,300]That's so funny...Last week I had Imogen Heap playing on my myspace page! Good taste in music Ummm anyway, I don't have messenger or aim or anything like that. So you can write me here or on myspace with your "fake" account I'd love to the other music...is in myspace music??[/glow]
I write back but she doesn't respond. Probably because I talk about how LG15 could potentially be a marketing vehicle. I probably struck too close to home with my musings and scared her off:
Haha oh Bree, you eternal mystery. I like it, keep everyone guessing forever. If indeed this is a part of some sort of marketing scheme or trailer, I'd rather it never be revealed to everyone and leave it a mystery forever. It's so much cooler that way. Did you see on lonelygirl15.com a guy in the comments section of the most recent post (apparantly Bukanator is worried about you..) things your episodes are a huge metaphor based on the book of Daniel. It's amazing what little things people will notice and draw huge conclusions from.
You are so lucky now because you can plant the most trivial and random things in your future episodes and cause thousands of people to guess and wonder at their meanings, even if its utterly random. This is working out even more successfully than planned!
I've never been to myspace music but I've got a lot of random stuff that probably wouldn't be on there. And no surprise you like Imogen Heap, we seem to like a lot of the same things (Aimee Mann another example).
OK I'm going to be adding you now with my fake name now, ek don't get mad!
Wow, I sure did write to her a lot. With no response from her I write to her with a random idea on August 9:
Some guy just posted at your latest video a note saying he saw you walking down a street in Chicago. I mean it wasn't you, but it gives me an idea. You and Daniel should make a "public appearance" or two. Like just walk around together at a mall or something and see if anyone recognizes. If they do and bring it up here you can have a video going Our parents let us go to the mall! or something like that. It'd bring a whole new dimension of reality to this.
She responded (and keep in mind that at some time before this Jess HAD been recognized in a SoCal Barnes & Nobles, so it's not totally inconceivable Bree!)
[glow=red,2,300]LOl that would be really funny! But I don't think I'd get regognized that's so silly. Oh, and can you send me that poem again? I like it [/glow]
It was after this that she put it on her MySpace. Anyway that's enough for now, but the correspondence continued through August. I got my last message from her on Sept 7, when I was keeping her up to date on the 't' situation. LG15 was revealed as a fake the next day and at that point writing to her became obsolete with real Creators to deal with!
