thanks for the update BK. i figured out how to log in. but let's get those avatars on the left. i've never seen a forum like this. not saying no forum does this, but maybe they are only hebrew langugage forums where its natural to read right to left. I agree on the avatars, it is very disorienting for them to be on the right, they are also too small. Can users resize them, or are they restricted to that size? ETA I fugured out that you can resize your avatar, not sure if there is a upper limit.

lg15.com is down at the moment (per bebo comments, looks like its been down around an hour so far). Shouldn't be much longer than an hour. They're installing something that's taking a big server draw, for some reason. The web guy said if it doesn't free up the server, he'll stop the process, which should free things up.

Unless I am mistaken the LG15 section of LG15.com has been updated. It looks a little better and more finished now, but still looks very incomplete to me.

The site was down again just now. I know nothing about running forums, but why can't someone fix that thing? I don't get it.

BrokenKid posted that the website people claimed LG15.com was the victim of a Denial of Service attack but I have a hard time believing that. Mostly because as big as LG seems to us, I really doubt there is any cracker group willing to waste their time attacking LG as opposed to the many other targets out there. Plus history of the creator's constantly lying to us has made it very hard to believe anything that comes from a official source. I am much more willing to believe they simply failed to configure (or increase the power of) their web servers and the decent amount of fan traffic caused the servers to overload. The solution. Put up a temp page that just says "sorry we are overloaded right now" until they can fix the problem.

the site has gone down so many times in the past i am very skeptical that they had a DOS attack. everytime a new video comes out the site slows very noticeably -- multiply that a few times for yesterday, and you know it was gonna happen.
i do hope they didn't lose out on too many views.

BrokenKid posted that the website people claimed LG15.com was the victim of a Denial of Service attack but I have a hard time believing that. Turns out your instincts were correct. As soon as they switched the vids from myspace to the YouTube links, LG15.com returned to normal. I'm certain BK was merely passing along the info he received.

I can certainly believe that myspace was part of the problem, after spending some time at Bebo I have found myspace to be even worse of a coding mess than I thought it was. (I kinda like Bebo!) There still is no excuse for not making sure the lg servers can handle the surge of users when a new vid is released though. It does lag significantly whenever the load increases. They should have know that the nature of the event and the accelerated vid release schedule would bring an increased load. This is just sad... I also believe BK is only reporting what he has been told, he is the phorum admin but I do not believe his responsibilities include maintaining the server or configuring the backend of the forum itself.

To give the web development team at LG15.com (whom I believe are still mysterious and uncredited, or at least I haven't seen their name mentioned) they did try to simplify the site during the 12 in 12 (such as disabling the comments) in a effort to keep the site functioning.
But I think it is very clear they didn't do any testing before hand. Based on the c's history this may not have been the web development teams fault, if they only heard about the switch to MySpace the same time we all did (and JSmith's experience with the Bree Chat Disaster would suggest that as a likely possibility) then that really isn't enough time to optimize your code and site for a totally different flash player. Once again I am amazed that for a company (and pretty much The Company) that makes media exclusively for online distribution just how little they understand the technology itself.
Like how the first 6 videos got leaked and Miles blamed it on a technical glitch - the glitch likely being his own ignorance. Perhaps I am just a more cautious person, but I know before I do anything that I consider important (and I suspect friday may have been on of the more memorable\important days in Miles' life) I can't help but run through every possibility and construct continence plan after continence plan and do as many dry runs as possible.
As Telegraph Ave grows I hope instead of starting up a 3rd show, their next addition is to separate the work and the distribution. Miles, Mesh, Greg, and Amanda should of course remain in charge of producing the stories themselves, but they should have a new division and president who's job is to handle and run the technological aspects (from simply uploading the vids to general site design) and to keep the other's ideas in line with what is physically possible to do.
I also agree 100% that BK wasn't knowingly lying to anyone. He has spun things and presented them in perhaps an overly positive light sometimes, but I have never known him to be purposefully deceitful. Contrasting the amount of work he (and the other moderators) puts in with the very health flow of money the c's are now receiving, I wonder if their volunteer positions will become paid ones in the future. At least I hope they all got a free t-shirt.

I'm pretty sure that it's the other way around. The programmer wasn't able to change the links to YouTube until the site was actually finally responding.

Maybe I'm not being told everything, but I've been communicating with the programmer and not hearing the technical details straight from the C's, so I absolutely believe it. I totally want a t-shirt! And a signed cast photo! And maybe a cameo on Greek!

Slightly OT but it looks like they were not the only ones experiencing problems,, news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6932202.stm Lesson 1,If you experience a major influx of people trying to log on,and the servers start failing -Dont Repeat DONT Tell Them to Keep Trying,-And this is a Govt education dept,Sheesh Now here is the punchline -They cant even write there own name, news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6934550.stm3000 potential future leaders in Scotland forgot their password--Down right Scary, Back OT, I agree with Terry on this one my gut instinct was that the servers were overloaded AND that the darker side of myspace regularly autobot potentially lucrative holes-My peerguardian goes into hyperdrive on some myspace sites/links that I have visited- PeerGuardian is designed for peer to peer so it is interesting to see actually what sites it is blocking My blocked list currently stands at 973939322 ip's That is an awful lot of attempts to get into system I have an external firewall AND a software firewall and they can still punch through, Would highly recommend using PG as an addition to regular firewalls even if you dont use P2P phoenixlabs.org/pg2/
