I know what you mean Alissa. I recently watched all the early episodes that I first fell in love with, and I felt a bit of a lump in the back of my throat too...

I mean, even the ones we used to say were going 'too far' at this point are loveable and missable.

I mean, even the ones we used to say were going 'too far' at this point are loveable and missable. no joke. what we wouldn't give for even a "What Did Dad And Daniel Talk About" (where Brian Flemming first raised the phrase "jumping the shark") about now. "Tell me. Tell Me!" "Bree smells like cheese." (Milo is bawling now.)

It's hard to say exactly when it jumped the shark. For me personally, "Poor Pluto" marks the last of the "good stuff" - maybe it's because the ones filmed after this were after they were outed? I'm not sure exactly which episode was first filmed after they were outed though, as they have some delay between when they are filmed and when we see them.
While not my favourites, the episodes up until Daniel breaking into Lucy's were not really that bad (compared to the one's after them anyway). But the introduction of Gemma, and shortly after the whole Opaphid thing, is the first, most significant dive the series took in my opinion. This was also the era of "On The Run" - the first sign of dragging the ceremony out in an utterly ridiculous way.
The introduction of Jonas was, at first, a bit weird. A bit too Dawson's Creek. But I think it has worked relatively well considering the rest of the plot. Jonas has grown into the story and is quite a likeable character now. I do think Jackson is to thank for this though, not necessarily the script (I mean, his family being a part of the Order too? Puh-lease).
Then when "The Unthinkable Happened" we knew we were drowning. Integrating the Op characters even though they were "not required viewing"... bad move. It became like a cheap action flick.
By the time they started putting all the LG15 logos on the screen captures on YouTube, delaying the time from Revver to YT, and merging all the characters' videos to Bree's account, the illusion that it was a real vlog was over. Even though that is part of why it was so appealing in the first place. It became inconsistant, and titles such as "Watch this!" didn't help their credibility.
Then low and behold, Op is aborted and we are left with massive plots holes. We now know that any "clue" we are given in this "mystery" is completely useless, "clues" being another great appeal of the series.
"Vegas, Baby", "Psychological Torture".... we now are in deep and have no oxygen. Then comes Alex and "Losing My Religion" and "Gasp!" we just might have some hope! The Hymn of One and Bree's new monologues are almost reminiscent of the old days. But no, no ... the 'LG15 tours Mexico!' and "Spring Break Sucks" reminds us that so does this series.
Then 'The Order Returns' and 'Jonas got a gun' come along and we are back to cheap action flick again. And just when you think, "We are at the lowest it can possibly be, it can only get better form here," an onslaught on 'wannabrees' crop up, and while this has the potential to breathe new life into the series and encourages more fan interaction, they take the wrong turn again and force a very different character on us that clearly no one likes. But do they heed our warning? No. Of course not. Have they ever?
It makes me think, what is the point of creating this "new art form" and encouraging interaction in the way of forums, video responses, fan-fic, comments, chatting to the characters, if they do not pay attention to them at all. They might as well have just tried to make this story into a film. At least it might have made sense then.

Out of all that ((not that I mind long insightful posts)) all I can think of is "Mmmmm, Jonas and that gun..." *dreamy look*

Hehehehe...It's okay. It's just left me singing, "Jonas got a gun, Jonas got a gun, his whole world's come undone, from lookin' straight at the sun...." ETA: OR could that be "...from looking at Daniel's bum?"

I'm tempted to go back and watch the first several dozen episodes after reading this thread. Is it really going to make me cry?

It's hard to say exactly when it jumped the shark. For me personally, "Poor Pluto" marks the last of the "good stuff" great post exilir. Hye and I had a long chat one night maybe a month ago where i went through the videos revver views one by one to see how revver views were doing (nothing hot 16K-30K views per video, usually around 20K avg), and we talked a lot about when it declined. i should find that log. I may have tagged First Kiss as the last great video (9.18), but there were other bright spots occassionally. --- and jay, yes, you may bawl.

Agreed about Pluto, particularly the reference they made about the teacher. That just jumped out at me as sooooo inappropriate, unnecessary to the story, etc. Gratuitous... Anyway, I think the thing that the majority of the phorumites never understood during my (our) jousts there was the wasted potential we saw that was evidenced in these early vids. What the hell went wrong My guess is Greed and the reaction they got from US that the clues and detective work were the main interest. Wrongo moose lips, it was all about the Characters. The clues were just part of the side-show. Bree and Daniel's Characters, and to a lesser extent Joan's, have been the best part of this. Bugger the cloak and dagger absurd plot... To paraphrase James Carville: "It's the vlog, Stupid!" That they would throw this vapid little girl character (not the actress I am hammering) out at us tells me they missed the whole point of the vlog format...

So much of my passion of the past few months came from my internal crying over this very thing. I railed against problems in the series because the beginning was so beautiful, and I hate to see what it has become, simple as that. Something about their personalities, the room, the slight air of mystery which came together to make a perfect storm. Oh and especially the writing, we can't forget that. Don't worry, it's not like LG is all I have in my life, it's not thaaat big a deal but early LG was truly beautiful. It really is something special to me and to see how it has been squandered and gone in so many directions I just don't like makes me sad inside, a lot.

Okay, okay... I'm feelin' it! I'm missing old LG so much that I have even changed my ring tone on my mobile to "Junkie" from the "Swimming" video... and this ebay store that I have done dealings with in the past has this bedspread for sale that is so reminiscent of Bree's that I am seriously thinking about buying it! See?! I don't think my boyfriend would be too happy about having a pink bed cover though, lol. I do have lots of other things in my life but I agree with everyone, it does make me feel sad that it wasn't the beautiful, original, arty masterpiece I thought it was going to be.
