just saw this in today's Washington Post: Small-Screen 'Prom Queen' Clicks With Online Audiencewww.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/18/AR2007061801643.htmla very well-written and fair article. and from the close ... "Eisner says he's plowing ahead with four or five shows in various stages of production and he's confident that Internet entertainment is not going away: "It's not going to displace movie theaters and broadcast and cable, but it's going to be one of the dominant platforms. You've got to be nervous if you own one of these other platforms." And the "Prom Queen" characters? They're not going away either, according to Eisner. Details are still being worked out, but those who survive the prom will be headed off on a post-high-school trip to Mexico some time later this summer -- an outing coming to a computer screen near you."

boston globe article from today: www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2007/06/21/with_200000_hits_a_day_prom_queen_is_webs_belle_of_the_ball/With 200,000 hits a day, 'Prom Queen' is Web's belle of the ballBy Joanna Weiss, Globe Staff | June 21, 2007 ... If you dole out a slick, produced series over 80 days, in 90-second chunks, will people watch? The answer, it turned out, is yes. "Prom Queen," a meandering tale of secrets and lies on the way to a deadly high school prom, drew some 200,000 hits per day. By yesterday, it had pulled in 15 million individual downloads ... ... And there's a spinoff in the works: "Prom Queen Summer" is scheduled to launch online in August.[/QUOTE]

From Cynopsis: Prom Queen, which finished its 80-webisode run this week, has already announced a spinoff. Prom Queen: Summer Heat will follow the same characters as they take off for Mexico immediately following prom night. The webisodes will expand from 90 seconds to 120 seconds, running for three weeks from August. The soap opera/murder mystery, produced by Michael Eisner's Vuguru, was an unqualified hit, drawing some 200,000 hits a day and 15 million total downloads.

Interesting tweaking and testing of the format. Presumably only 21 episodes or so, but slightly longer. unqualified? i think i know what they mean by using that term, but it can also mean no one has put any parameters on what an IMS hit even is. I guess the Hairspray folks can say, our ad got 15 million impressions.

From Queen: Summer Heat will follow the same characters as they take off for Mexico immediately following prom night. I wonder which characters are going to Mexico. Really, they're not all going to just pile into a van and drive down there together like BFFs, right? Oooh, maybe Ben gets some textmsg spam saying he won a free vacation to Cabo and he better get down there now to claim his prize. Believing this to be from the murder-texter, he races south of the border followed by the rest of the cast.
