www.lonelygirl15.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=989Posted: Tue Sep 26, 2006 5:34 am Post subject: We Re-Designed the Website with VIDEO COMMENTS (yay)! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey everyone! We just launched the first in an ongoing series of revisions to the website. It is now MUCH easier to navigate to the old videos. We switched from quicktime to Flash video so people should have less problems viewing the vids. A video summary and song credits are up. The most exciting change is that you can now upload video comments using Revver. This is the first in a series of steps we will be taking to enable fans to create their own charaters and storylines. When you upload your videos to Revver, they place an ad at the end. When people click on the ad you make money. Pretty cool, huh? This way we can all participate in the future of lonelygirl15. Coming soon... character/user profiles, the ability to create and "admin" storylines with characters you and your friends create, the LGPedia (a wiki), and MUCH MUCH MORE! Please give us your feedback in the "Suggestions" forum, we always want to hear how we can improve. Enjoy, and thanks for being a fan.

Nice improvement to their site. Also interesting that Revver seems to publish in two formats now (you can select via a parameter which one you like QT/FLV).
They make it sound almost is if they want to start a role-playing community, with profiles for fan-characters and such. While it sounds very intriguing, I wonder if their audience is involved enough for something like that.
A lot of people I see posting simply want more of the offical storyline. It will be interesting to watch how it all progresses.

Also I don't want the breeniverse clogged up with an endless number of random characters created by fans. I only like canon which comes from or is approved by the creators.

That's kind of interesting, as an idea anyway. I doubt I'll follow anyone else unless they come up with something really good.

I think that is kinda the problem. I mean, I like their idea of letting people re-mix their universe. But I think most people are not quite ready for something like that, or maybe, it's not even a good idea. I just want a really good story ... I dunno ... I don't mind the fan stuff, it would just be nice if the good creations get folded into canon somehow ... Call me old school

Call me old school Okay, Vanilla - you're old school! But so am I. I can't manage the vitriol on YouTube - but I can watch the video and ignore it by not reading the comments. The comments on LG15.com are in your face when you pull it up. And the YouTube nastiness has followed. I can watch the videos on revver.com - and now they have numbered them (thank god) - and no comments. But then we go back to the "no interaction" piece again. I have been noodling all of this around. There just doesn't seem any good way to merge the need to make money (or at least pay the actors) and stay up with the fans. It almost seems like the LG15 crew is a little too far ahead of the curve on the IMS concept. I still can't quite articulate my thoughts - but I think because I'm trying to make it logical and right now it is so early in the life cycle of this media.
