There are so very many, many catfish in this pond.
Just exactly how far has this strayed from Mesh's original vision? It seems like the Miles Beckett show now, co-starring a Cloud of Nubile Starlets.

Would my fellow anchor cove mates be willing to start an Anti-Gemma revolution over at the main forum, so Miles knows our displeasure? We're all big names over there more or less, I think we could send a point home about this. Sorry for those of you who like Gemma or think she's a worthy addition to LG15. At this point I don't really see any Mesh involvement what-so-ever. It seems to be a combination of Miles's love for the hot young'ins with faux-Mesh writing. For example the petrol station story. It kind of reminded me of something Mesh would have written, but it was overall lame and not up to his standards. It's like a half-way house scene between actual Mesh goodness and totally lame, which most of the rest of it actually is. To quote Gemma, she's just a "rubbish person".

I feel bad for Jackie. I think she could be great with a different script/less predictable character.

True, but I bet she didn't bank on there being an anti-Gemma revolution.

I'm not Anti-Gemma at all. I think it is an interesting change in the series. Do I think Gemma is hot? Nope. Does it matter to me? Nope. Am I glad they are adding some breadth to the series? Yep! Am I relieved they are getting away from the "ceremony" chaos? Yep. Do I enjoy serial dramas? Yep. Did I live for 90210 and Dallas and Melrose Place and Grey's Anatomy? Yep. So is this my cuppa tea? Yep.
It all just depends on why you are watching. For me, it is entertainnment. It's mind candy not unlike People Magazine. I don't expect to find excerpts from "The Iliad" in People so I am never disappointed.

Is it possible that Gemma was planned and cast from the beginning? There were two girls originally planned, right? So, (I may certainly have missed something) how do we know she was a recent, unplanned addition?

I don't know if Gemma was cast from the beginning of the project. For all we know, she might have been, and there were two girls planned, but we don't know if "girl #2" was this character or not. I think more important is the idea that she was cast at the time of her first video, which I believe she was, as opposed to the idea she made a fan-video and then was incorporated because she was real life friends with Jess, as some are suggesting. But that's just my educated guess. I don't know how she got the job.

I don't mind her just the way she became offical is my problem and what is she filming in some subway shop. I am gald for once a new video does not have to mean bree or daniel. I just hope we don't see a flood of new friends show up all at once.

Part of the initial objections were just logical ones -- a few people here, and manymanymany on the Phorum, were insisting that "Jakki is a friend of Jess" was evidentiary proof that "Gemma is canon."
But it wasn't, and that fact alone *still* isn't.
The fact that she *has* turned out to be canon will unfortunately reinforce that perception of logic, which makes me sad in an abstract, geeky way. We here on the Cove, of course, know that she was only proven canon by Bree's video. Hooray for us.
