My So-Called Paradise
Notes And Recollections From The Other Side Of Life
Firstly, Miles's name used to be Miles Zajaczkowski!?
A few years ago, our children announced their intention to change their name from Zajaczkowski to Beckett, my mother’s maiden name as you know. They had reasons. Zajaczkowski was too hard to pronounce. Folks were already calling Miles, Dr. Zee, which he hated.

Miles was a doctor just a year and a half ago, a doctor who hated medicine and fled his surgical residency to pursue his passion for filmmaking. He created Lonelygirl15, a teen drama on the Internet that became the international hit last year on YouTube and on his own website, LG15.com. We’re talking about a ground-breaking phenom. Cover of Wired Magazine, interviews with virtually every news outlet on the planet from CNN to Time Magazine. The show has millions of addicted, and often, fanatical viewers. In short, it’s been the whole overnight sensation thing come to life in my very own family.
He’s in England to recreate the magic of Lonelygirl15, for truly that is what it seems like to us, his parents, for the British Internet community via a new show called Kate Modern that plays daily on Bebo.com. Kate was launched just a couple weeks ago and is already a bone-fide success with millions, no exaggeration, of viewers who watch it with religious adherence.
So, he and his business partner were invited to Edinburgh to speak about these two hit Internet shows and to prophesize the future of storytelling in the world of new media.
Nettie and I were here to eat haggis, drink local ale, and buy a trinket or two.
