the creators earlier today: www.lg15.com/lonelygirl15/forum/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=12810=----- news.com.com/8301-13577_3-9753696-36.htmlMy, my, Lonelygirl15 sure has come a long way. Not so long ago, everyone thought the too-cute videoblogger was, well, a too-cute videoblogger. Then some online video fans with a shocking amount of time on their hands deduced that she was likely an actress in a staged series of video episodes. (They were right.) Now, leading lady "Bree" (played by Jessica Rose) has gone all professional on us--the new MySpaceTV video portal will be hosting Lonelygirl15's season finale. Season finale? On Friday, MySpaceTV--which launched in June and has been rolling out content deals ever since--will broadcast the final episode of the "first season" of Lonelygirl15. But it's a little more complicated than that: the "12 in 12" finale will be shown in 12 segments, each one broadcast on the hour starting at 8 AM ET. Lonelygirl15 episodes have been uploaded to the Lonelygirl15 MySpace page since the series' early days, but this is the first time that they'll be available only on the portal. Lonelygirl, after all, is one of YouTube's biggest stars too. This announcement of an "exclusive" Web video broadcast may be a sign of things to come, an indicator that perhaps we should be thinking about online video hubs as networks rather than just platforms. Perhaps we'll soon be saying, "Oh, it's on MySpaceTV" or "You can catch it on YouTube" instead of talking about whether a program is on NBC or Fox.

Well this is funny, just seconds after we notice LG15 suddenly on MySpace this is discovered. So the finale will... only be on MySpace...? If so, that's clearly part of a lucrative deal but... what if most regular YT fans don't get the memo? I hardly think most fans are dedicated enough to actually figure out and then chase down the LG15 finale on over to MySpace. They had a hard enough time with alternate YT channels...

Well, it will be released on YT, but likely not for a couple days - like how PQ was. I wonder if they will have lg15.com setup to show the MySpace videos

another article: newteevee.com/2007/08/01/myspace-nabs-lonelygirl15-finale/.... MySpace has also secured rights to host all Lonelygirl videos, with future installments from season 2 being posted at a dedicated page (note the ¡°lonelygurl15¡å spelling, looks like someone else had already nabbed the username). Lonelygirl15, whose creators had shielded their identities before revealing the show was fiction last year, had initially been hosted on YouTube; then switched to Revver as the default host for www.lg15.com/ (while still uploading the videos to multiple sites); and just last week switched back to pasting in YouTube embeds. As when the show was first uploaded to Revver, now MySpaceTV is making an excited announcement (via emailed press release; should go on the wire soon) to brag about getting to host it. YouTube did a similar thing earlier this year when it named the series one of its first revenue-sharing independent partners. [milo adds: is lg15 the whore of IMS?]This is pretty remarkable. The team behind Lonelygirl ¡ª Greg Goodfried, Miles Beckett, Mesh Flinders ¡ª is not only getting to keep the rights to their content and creative control over it ¡ª they¡¯re having people squabble over the right to pay their bandwidth fees. The only time the word ¡°exclusive¡± turns up in MySpace¡¯s press release for Thursday is very, very precise: ¡°an exclusive partnership to debut LonelyGirl15¡¯s season one finale.¡± MySpace isn¡¯t the only one trying to use business development to get access to this team¡¯s brains and its rabid fans. Bebo, the social network that¡¯s dominant in the U.K., cut a deal to be the interactive platform for Goodfried and Beckett¡¯s new show, KateModern, based in London. And deals like this are actually good for the creative side of the show, because social networks, a la Prom Queen, provide perfect environments to bring characters right into the online world of their audience. Bebo¡¯s team has made quick work of securing TV-priced advertising deals for KateModern, nabbing worldwide brands like Orange, Procter & Gamble, and Windows Live to place their products in the show. While Goodfried and Beckett (who call themselves Telegraph Ave Productions) may have toiled away wondering where the rent would come from for the past year, now people are volunteering to go out and sell ads so the two can do what they do best. Some independent online video makers have complained about what they¡¯ve lost by choosing a site (generally YouTube) to host their content. Sure, they build an early audience and tie into a network of creators and watchers, but they don¡¯t own those viewers and it¡¯s difficult to port them elsewhere. Meanwhile, their video host builds its own traffic and revenue/valuation on the back of their good video. The solution, and an increasingly common choice, is to set up your own domain and try to drive all your watchers to it. Now the inverse is happening. The Lonelygirl team has established the show as a hit and its official site as a hub of collaboration and interactivity, so it can move back out into the rest of the web, with portals fighting for the right to distribute its content. [milo adds: if press like this keeps up, can you smell IPO for Telegraph Ave Productions? Well, creators, you did promise that your fans could make money too, so i hope i get a chance to buy in :-)]

I really can't believe how many fish are biting these days. Back in the September-November drought they couldn't get a person to look at them, according to Greg's explanation. That's when content was best in the post-reveal age (but obviously with Bree living out of dumpsters for a lot of that time it was hardly great). As they said it takes advertisers and such a good long time to realize they have something good on their hands, and sure enough they are only now realizing how good things were about 9 months ago and are getting on board. The joke is on them though, as we all know the show is an utter mess of absurdity now. It'll probably take the advertisers another 9 months to realize that, if it is even still going on at that point. And if so who knows what the she will be like... aliens?

there are articles and blogs about the season finale/myspace deal all over the place. good promotional work by somebody. www.postchronicle.com/news/original/article_21295532.shtml"With more than 115 million potential friends on MySpace, LonelyGirl won't be lonely any more," said Jeff Berman, GM of MySpaceTV. "By joining Sony Minisodes, Prom Queen, and all of our branded channel partners coming online this month, LonelyGirl will be in good company on MySpaceTV." home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20070802005311&newsLang=enthat's the press release, excerpt: ... LonelyGirl15 (http://www.LG15.com) is an ensemble based serial drama garnering 250,000—300,000 views per episode [if by "per episode" you mean "some episodes" on the main lg15 channel], with some episodes logging in at over a million views each, for a total of over 60 million combined views. The show was created by Miles Beckett, Greg Goodfried and Mesh Flinders -- a doctor, a lawyer and filmmaker. [putting Mesh last in this press release is mesh-abuse!] The LonelyGirl15 team, which has grown to include Producer Amanda Goodfried, recently launched KateModern, the story of a hip, British University student and her group of friends as they endeavor into the types of mysteries, adventures and interactive elements that have made LonelyGirl15 an international success. ... To view LonelyGirl15’s season one finale log onto MySpaceTV at myspacetv.com or view the official LonelyGirl15 MySpace profile at myspace.com/lonelygurl15. www.tvweek.com/news/2007/08/myspace_snags_lonelygirl15_fin.php... The deal marks the first time LonelyGirl15 videos have been offered on MySpace. However, the site has snagged exclusives before. During the spring run of Michael Eisner’s “Prom Queen,” MySpace had a 12-hour exclusive window for each new episode. www.thedailyreel.com/news-opinion/news/myspace-to-host-lonelygirl15-season-finale-and-future-episodes?gnewsid=1186060297.16www.last100.com/2007/08/02/is-the-internet-the-fifth-major-tv-network/.... I’m excited to “tune in” to an Internet “channel” like MySpace or YouTube to catch the season finales of shows like “LonelyGirl15” and “Prom Queen”, just like I was anxious to see what happened in the network finales of “Lost” and “Heroes.” I’ve even caught myself during the day wondering, “What’s on the Internet tonight?”... milowent.blogspot.com/2007/08/lg15-season-one-finale-tomorrow.htmlloser blurb - that guy is lazy. www.webtvwire.com/lonelygirl15-season-finale-myspacetv-announces-exclusive-deal/...The fact MySpaceTV has secured exclusive rights (all be it to the one episode) to what is still principally an amateur created video speaks volumes. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come – rather than people splashing the same content across many sites, video community sites like MySpaceTV may request exclusivity and in return offer to develop the creator’s brand. life-rehearsal.livejournal.com/70070.htmlLG15 SEASON ONE RECAP there is nothing more important in my life right now. this almost gave me a heartattack. there are 12 eppisodes of lonelygirl15 tomorrow. starting at 8. one every hour. mediabiz.blogs.cnnmoney.com/2007/08/02/lonelygirl15-finds-a-friend-in-myspace/...until a real business model for online video develops, then the still infinitesimal online video advertising market may, as I argued last week, remain a small piece of the overall advertising pie for the foreseeable future. So the only true lonelygirl of online video might be a woman in MySpace’s accounting department waiting for the ad revenue to start pouring in. mashable.com/2007/08/01/lonelygirl15-myspace/The anticipation is killing me.

Wow, I'm so happy for them that the deals are finally panning out. I kind of resent all the misleading things they're saying to promote the show, but hey, this is the attention they deserved back in the day, and now they are finally getting it.
Perhaps this will give them the opportunity to start off season 2 more well-funded, more organized, and with an established audience (well, what's left of us anyway).

I DO want them (and especially JR) to find success, in whatever way they want to measure it. It's been a fun ride and I hope they can keep it rolling.

What a bad bad idea. Especially not telling the fans about this, I dunno...last week? Several weeks ago? NOT yesterday? The Creators just don't know how to handle anything it seems. They mess everything up.
It doesn't matter how innovative and creative you are if you lack the proper execution skills. *sigh* Looks like I'll probably be missing the 12 in 12 until it gets reposted elsewhere since I refuse to use an even more poorly coded website than Youtube to watch videos. Youtube = second deepest pit in coding hell. Myspace = deepest pit in coding hell.
Will the 12 in 12 be uploaded elsewhere tomorrow?

Okay. I feel a little silly. I guess the Myspace videos will be fed through to the main site? They'd better be, anyway. I dunno. Still seems like bad news bears to me. At the very least, this is something they should have told the viewers before the night before...ugh. Poor grammar.
