I was rereading some posts from old LG15 threads, and I found a couple of gems that have withstood the test of time (ok, a few months). They either describe things that remain oh-so-true, or unwittingly predicted something that actually happened!
Here's one: JayHenry's study of the 7 stages of the LG15 fan cycle. It's from the "On The Jumping of Sharks Thread From The Forum" thread.
There's a fan-cycle that everyone seems to go through with this show:
1) Approach. Most people have approached the show initially at arms-length -- a 16-year-old's video blog? This is stupid. But, I'll see what the hype is all about.
2) Enchantment. While watching, most fans have a moment where they suddenly get hooked. I'd watched for a long time, but I got hooked around 1:08 of My Lazy Eye.
3) Obsession. This is the phase where you ravenously watch all the videos. For new fans -- this lasts awhile because there's so much to catch up on. For early fans, there was, of course, the weeks long intense hunt. For CIW-era fans there was CIW.
4) Disillusion. Usually there's a moment where something so implausible or poorly plotted happens that the viewer becomes frustrated. For me this was "A Message From The Creators" which was done so artlessly. For others this was the inconsiderate use of Thelema, any of a half-dozen implausible plot twists, the introduction of a vapid character, or the abandonment of realism.
5) Denial. Even as the frustration grows, most people are slow to admit that the show isn't living up to their expectations.
6) Rejection. Finally, something so ridiculous happens, that the fan loses it and either begins to post in frustration or simply wanders off.
7) Post-LG. Many fans leave after an angry sign-off. Those that stay, mostly do it for the community that has grown around LG. The Cove is a post-LG community, with almost all of us having gone through some form of the 7-steps of LG. The Cassieiswatching people have gone through it too. Now the phorum is mostly populated by a third generation of fans, younger I think than the earlier waves.
What's happening at the phorum is simply that 3rd generation of fans hitting the disillusionment wall.
Another great one: Smashing comments on Gemma's "Learning Egyptian".
The LG trainwreck continues.
So, the videoblogs aren't necessarily posted by the characters, the ceremony wasn't a ceremony, and the religion isn't a religion.
Possible future twists in the series:
1) Bree is not Bree
2) Her parents are not her parents
3) Daniel isn't Daniel (but Yousef isn't fired)
4) The creators figure out what they're doing
5) Purple monkey...is real. And real dangerous.
I'm sure there's tons more timeless posts. If you find any, share them here!
