I actually did think about VTech when I saw that video and that perhaps it was too soon- but when it comes down to it there are shootings everywhere everyday. Technically it should never be the right time for such violence in the media- so since our society deems it acceptable generally there should be no "wrong time" for something so general. This would be different, of course, if it had been something specific like a student shooting up a class (which I really don't think is acceptable any time), but the use of guns are so pervasive there really is no reason for just showing a general shooting at some times but not others.

I agree JayHenry. This was very well done in the context of this story, and what a way to create a dramatic and tragic end (if this is the end ). After all the running around in LG15 I really did not see this coming at all. The c's really do have something to learn from this production. ETA: I didn't think about Virgina Tech when I watched this. I was too caught up in the MA story. What was in bad taste though, related to VT is that on the day of the shootings, the most viewed video on YouTube was SNL sketch 'Dear Sister'. I guess it can be said that the site can't really control what is the most viewed, but should they? If that was the most viewed thing of the day, that was because ordinary people were watching it and laughing. I didn't know what it was a spoof of at first, but have since learnt it is taking off the second season finale of The OC. I still found it disturbing though.

What the heck, SNL, why would that be funny ever? Let alone the same day as VT. I think the main funny thing about it was the dischordant Imogen Heap song, beyond that there is not a thing even remotely funny about that, shameful...
(Then again if I had actually seen the OC perhaps the funniness would become more apparent as a spoof, but still-- and stand alone it is not funny at all.)

I think the only (sort of) funny thing about it is that they are pointing out the discordant use of the song in the original OC episode. It is distasteful without the knowledge of the OC episode, somewhat understandable with the knowledge of it, but as I said before it's still pretty disturbing. I don't know how it made it past the drawing board!

Well, like I said I had not been following the series, so maybe it would make more sense If I had. I hadn't found that SNL skit funny either, and I hadn't ever seen the OC either.
just my .02 cents

Just posted on the phorums: www.lonelygirl15.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9604A message from the creator of Maddison Atkins: The following post is as Out Of Game as OOG can be. Your experiences In Game are very important to me, so please be warned that the following is from the maker of Maddison Atkins, and is completely Out of Character. Last chance to turn back? This is NOT a joke. TiNaJ. heh Ok. My name is Jeromy Barber, and making Maddison Atkins has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Unlike most forms of entertainment and art, many of you have poured your time, energy, and emotions into making Maddison along side me. In many ways, we have been making this story together, so let me say thanks for journeying with me. I deeply enjoy the work we do. This chapter of our story is over, and I'd like to briefly "step out from behind the curtain" and field some questions from the community. Because of the unexpected vested interest in Maddison herself, I felt it the very least I could do. Through the duration of this story, many questions have been posed, and I think it's fair that the community at large have an opportunity to ask me those directly, and hopefully, get some good answers. So here's what I propose, please video your questions (1 question per video please), post them on You Tube, post the link here, in kind, I will video the actors, myself, or Whiskey responding to them, and post the links here. To be fair to the story we are experiencing, I am not going to answer any questions pertaining to the plot or the "holes" therein. Hopefully, we will all come to those conclusion In Game and not Out. Everything else is Fair Game. For those who don't have a camera or the ability to post a video, I encourage you to be resourceful. Actually, it's been my experience that this community is resourceful to a degree that I thought not possible, so maybe I should just encourage you to just be yourselves. One final thing, for everybody who does post, please consider your questions carefully. Most likely, I won't be able to answer all of them, but I'll do my best. Thanks again, Jeromy

Soooo, I was WAY wrong about it being Glenn... Silly Monkey.
Nice to see that there is a new playah on the vlog-based ARG scene though. If I were the c's, I would be watching my back for more of these. I wonder if he had the c's blessing to do this though...

I love how we talk here blissfully unaware that the Creators & Associates (or at least the Associates) are reading everything we say. I just wanted to give our loyal silent readers a shout-out and encourage them to enter the fray. WE DON'T HATE YOU- that's a nasty rumor. But we do think we have good ideas, and have since the beginning, which we come up with through our collective discussion and analysis which you just don't get at the forum. So please don't be shy- you aren't fooling anyone that you aren't here ;-)

I have been following along here, and I really like the perspectives offered. It's top notch, and some of these posts actually helped me make decisions along the way.
Sorry I lurked, and I'll have to lurk again at some point. I'm not trying to fool anyone.

I think you did a pretty good job of interweaving the ARG with the vlogs. I will only speak for myself here, but I'm not really into the puzzles and more into the videos themselves... Reports were that the ARG was run very well and the in-character interaction was Breally engaging. Your actors were a little "rough" at first but seemed to gain their footing fairly quickly. For a limited run, pretty good!

Hi Jeromy, I just wanted to say you and your team did a great job with the Maddison Atkins game and story (I think you've noticed that most people agree). I'm not an ARG player myself, but I enjoyed the videos, the narrative, and the characters you created. As for the unexpected vested interest in MA, that probably had a lot to do with your timing (aside from the quality, of course). You started the game at a time when the LG15 community was experiencing a dearth of ARG action. You'll have noticed the crowd at the forum is really into these games--they're all there because of all the ARG action we used to have revolving around OpAphid/Tachyon and other activities... then suddenly it all dried up. Left in the vacuum was Facility J alone, and I think your game was just a much needed breath of fresh air for everyone. Well done. I hope you had a nice enough experience that you continue to work on projects like these, on lg15 and wherever else you choose to go.

J great job jeromy. i thought the actors were great, too. even from that cool but cheesy beginning of maddy coming up the stairs. lastly, outing yourself like this is very nice. Glenn didn't get all his eggs in a row on that one, though he intentionally let it slip. And as for cassieiswatching, even i know that's clearly not the way to end an ARG.
