They sound like they have really thought this through. They have plans for realistic profit sources all setup and a fully functional website primed and ready to go. While having all these details setup certainly makes them prepared if they become a hit, but in no way will make them a hit. This shows sounds like it has excellent producers, but not a necessarily excellent creative team. I think 90 seconds is going to be way too short and sounds like it is going to be shoot 3rd person (like SH7F) and that is never going to be as captivating as the mock vlog format. Although I do like the idea of a high school mystery, if they can capture a tiny portion of amazingness that the first season of Veronica Mars was then I will be watching.
I think Greg should get in talks with these people and have them handle the production side and leave Miles & Mesh to the creative side.

First off, when they say they're goal is to be the next LG they don't mean "The next popular mock-vlog" whatever. They mean that their goal is to be the next big show distributed on the internet. Other than using the internet for distribution, they're not suggesting any similarities to LG.
The difference between this and between SamHas7Friends is one of funding. SH7F was made by professionals, people who were assistant directors, had worked on professional projects, know the industry, etc. But, they weren't rich. Sam was produced with their own money for under $50,000 just to see what happened.
PromQueenTV is funded by Michael Eisner. Eisner was chairman of Disney for 20 years -- he's probably nearly a billionaire and he has a teensy-weensy bit of knowledge about marketing to kids.
The lesson of Sam, a really cool, well-done show, that almost nobody knew about, is that it's all about marketing.
I'm not saying it's a sure thing, but it's definitely too soon to label this one a stinker.

Here's a Wired interview with Michael Eisner on Prom Queen: My favorite bit: WN: OK, then, how close is it to Lonelygirl15? Eisner: (exasperated sigh) It isn't close to that at all -- that's one person talking into the camera. This is a story-driven, character-driven emotional mystery. WN: You really balked at the comparison to Lonelygirl. Why? Michael Eisner: Hey, I balk at any comparison to anything. It's creative content -- saying that it's like something is usually the kiss of death. I never even thought of either of those two (shows). Really, that's the first I've heard of a similarity with the two. Prom Queen is like what it is. And guess what Jay? It is the SH&F crew that is making Prom. And now they have Eisner's money. Here's how Eisner plans to monetize his show: Eisner: Well, there will be actual advertising before the episode and a lot of post roll. We'll keep it short, and there will be banners. With 10- to 20-minute (episodes strung together), there may be (ad) interruptions. Oh, and there are embedded spots -- product placements. With Star Style users can click through (the footage) and buy something. WN: So the show will be primarily ad based? Eisner: Yeah, ads and product placement. Then there will be a relationship with distributors. full article here: Edit: clean up the link

Wow, that was a surprisingly good interview. I wish MM&G would do one like this, one where the interviewer doesn’t just lob them easy ones. Eisner sounds pretty confident and at the same time a little ignorant. The fact that the lowest number he throws out for viewership is 1 million seems to me that he hasn’t spent much time looking at online video. I’m also not sure if he won’t alienate his audience a little with statements like user generated content stands no chance against professionally produced content. Likewise the way he discussed the copyright issues and how he doesn’t want people to remix the show and would even consider pursuing people that do also seems inappropriate for online video. I think they definitely have a plan to make money, but ads at the beginning of the show could really hurt views. If the product placement allows people to click on items in the videos and be able to buy them (that is how I read it) that will be a million dollar idea in and of itself. I hope he patented it, or, actually I hope he didn’t . I’m starting to think it is going to be a very long time before they really figure out how to use this medium.

I’m starting to think it is going to be a very long time before they really figure out how to use this medium. I've been thinking the same thing for some time now Terry. It may be that the similarities to TV are deceptive...that the internet is a fundamentally different medium, especially when you look at monetizing it. It's interesting that when tv came in (god, can I really remember that?) they simply adopted radio (1/2 hour shows interrupted by advertising) and it worked quite well. But this seems to be different and Eisner's interview didn't make me think he really gets the medium . Of course, he can lose a hundred million here or there working at it, unlike our LG friends...

There's only one question worth asking: is the show compelling? If it is, and enough people know about it, it will be successful. If it isn't, it won't. I really think it's as simple as that. Advertising will only drive people away if the content is not strong enough to keep them watching. Eisner's opinions also don't matter. What matters is if Prom Queen is fun to watch. Anyone who understands that, understands the medium.
And Terry, the lowest number Eisner threw out for viewership was "one person"

Does anyone know of an embed that will put in the lastest episode as opposed to a fixed episode??? Hey, mm, there is a revver widget for doing this - check the source code for the main page at www.anchor-cove.net. - that is self updating, either terryfic or vanillaflava did it.
