Ok.. Here we go step by step:
1) Download Mirc from
www.mirc.com/get.html2) Install, no changes required to the default settings
3) Run Mirc
4) A window telling you to register may pop-up.. Just wait until Continue comes on and then click on it.
5) Another window opens with 4 empty field spaces to fill.
Name and email: Just enter anything, never the real ones
Nick: Enter your nickname
Alternate: Just anything
6) On the left, choose the third listed as "Options",
- MARK Connect on Startup,
- UNMARK Popup connect dialoge
Click on "Perform", MARK Enable perform and write this on the big text field further down:
/msg nickserv identify PASS
(Being PASS your password). Just click OK, OK and DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE IN THE OPTIONS.. Or I'll bite you!
7) Now the cursor will be at the bottom of a screen names STATUS. That is the only name you have to remember. Copy and paste this then press enter:
/server chat.us.freenode.net
8) Depending on your system settings a windows security alert may pop up alerting that Mirc is trying to access internet. This is completly normal, just press UNBLOCK/ALLOW whatever it is.
9) It may take a while (A minute or so) to get actually connected to the server so just be patient and dont panic. A few messages may come on the STATUS screen.. Just don't pay attention to them
10) Once you are connected a new window will pop up asking wich channel you want to join.
- Click on ADD,
- Enter #anchorcove on the Channel field
- MARK "join on connect".
Click OK to close the ADD window
11) Back at the last window, at the bottom
- UNMARK Popup favorites on connect.
Among the channels on the top of the list will be #anchorcove, select and click JOIN.
12) A new window will open and will be the channel. Just write and press enter to chat. On the right side there is a column and the nicknames present on the channel will show up there. If it's empty there is nobody at home.
13) All users eventually will have a "@" next to their nicknames. That means you can have someone out if required.. But don't worry about that now... Most likely you'll never need it. The point in having it is to never have to use it.. Bad guys know what it is for.
14) Once finished chatting just close the program. Next time just run Mirc and you should connect and join the channel automatically.
15) It is absolutly mandatory to have fun!
16) Register your nickname, you are to comply inmediatly.. Any resistance will be futile. There are 2 reasons for that: So the rest of us know you are the real deal and also nobody else can use it or register it and take it away from you. In order to achieve that you only have to write in any mirc window once connected this:
/msg nickserv register PASS
(being PASS your choosen password). Now, if this pass and the one you wrote before are the same you'll never have to write it again.
