Join us every Wednesday night at 10:00 pm EST for our weekly Anchor Cove chat nights. All members are welcome, even if you just lurk at the Cove. The chatroom is of course open all the time, and often between 9-12 pm EST you can find a couple Cove members hanging out. The real fun is on Wednesdays though, we don’t get as busy as the #hymnofone or #maddison rooms so if you find them a little too busy we might be a good alternative.
You can access #AnchorCove via web chat here
Or you can be a little more adventurous and download an IRC chat client such as mIRC or XChat. Then you want to log on to the freenode server (irc.freenode.net). Some chat clients come with this server already added others you may have to add it yourself. The process is usually pretty straight forward, but if you are having any troubles feel free to private message me and I will do my best to get it up and running for you. Once you have logged onto the freenode server simply type /join #anchorcove and you will be in our chatroom.
Registering Your Name
If you are thinking about becoming an IRC regular (or even just an occasional visitor) it is a very good idea to register your nickname. This is important for two reasons, the first of all is so that no one can impersonate you – this has never been a problem, but it is always better to be safe then sorry. The second reason is that you can only send private messages to people if your name is registered. Type the following command to register the nickname that you currently have: /msg NickServ register <password> where <password> is any password of your choosing. And no, no one can see your password when you do this.
You only have to register your name once, but you will have to identify yourself each time you log in. If you are using an IRC chat client you can automate this process, if not all you have to type each time you log in is: /msg NickServ IDENTIFY <password> again where <password> is the password you entered when you registered your name.
A couple useful IRC commands – for a more complete list click here
Sending a private message
/msg <user> <text> where <user> is whom you want to send the message to and <text> is the contents of the private message. Remember you must have a registered\identified username to send private messages
Joining a Channel (chatroom)
/join <#channel> remember channels start with a #, if you just type /join anchorcove you will not end up in the correct place. Besides #anchorcove there is also #hymnofone for discussing LG and #maddison for discussing Maddison Atkins or any 15OVER15 videos. Be aware that those two channels are used by the ARG players, and when solving puzzles they do not like people talking about something which is off topic and in general don’t like people talking about things “out of game”
Emoting
/me <text> where the text is often an action of some kind. For example if I (Terryfic) were to type /me is made of awesome then everyone else would see *Terryfic is made of awesome. You will get a better feel for this once you see it in action.
Changing your nickname
/nick <nickname> will change your nickname to <nickname>.
